A flavour-independent Higgs boson search in e+e- collisions at sqrt(s) up to 209GeV

2002

A search for the Higgsstrahlung process e+e- → HZ is carried out, covering decays of the Higgs boson into any quark pair, a gluon pair or a tau pair. The analysis is based on the 630 pb-1 of data collected by the ALEPH detector at LEP at centre-of-mass energies from 189 to 209 GeV. A 95% C.L. lower mass limit of 109.1 GeV/c2 is obtained for a Higgs boson cross section equal to that expected from the Standard Model if the Higgs boson decays exclusively into hadrons and/or taus, irrespective of the relative branching fractions. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Constituent quarks and parton distributions

1997

Abstract The high energy parton distribution when evolved to a low energy scale appears to indicate that a valence picture of hadron structure arises. We have developed a formalism based on a laboratory partonic description which connects the parton distributions with the momentum distributions of a quark model. The formalism uses Next to Leading Order evolution and has been defined to produce the right support for the parton distributions. In this scheme we have analyzed the polarized and unpolarized data and shown that well-known Quark Models lead to a qualitative description of the data. However, if one aims at a quantitative agreement, these conventional low energy models have to be cha…

Abstract Exclusive production of ω mesons was studied at the COMPASS experiment by scattering 160 GeV / c muons off transversely polarised protons. Five single-spin and three double-spin azimuthal asymmetries were measured in the range of photon virtuality 1 ( GeV / c ) 2 Q 2 10 ( GeV / c ) 2 , Bjorken scaling variable 0.003 x Bj 0.3 and transverse momentum squared of the ω meson 0.05 ( GeV / c ) 2 p T 2 0.5 ( GeV / c ) 2 . The measured asymmetries are sensitive to the nucleon helicity-flip Generalised Parton Distributions (GPD) E that are related to the orbital angular momentum of quarks, the chiral-odd GPDs H T that are related to the transversity Parton Distribution Functions, and the si…

Search for heavy vector-like quarks coupling to light quarks in proton–proton collisions at s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

2012

This letter presents a search for singly produced vector-like quarks, Q, coupling to light quarks, q. The search is sensitive to both charged current (CC) and neutral current (NC) processes, p p --> Q q --> W q q' and p p --> Q q --> Z q q' with a leptonic decay of the vector gauge boson. In 1.04/fb of data taken in 2011 by the ATLAS experiment at a center-of-mass energy sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, no evidence of such heavy vector-like quarks is observed above the expected Standard Model background. Limits on the heavy vector-like quark production cross section times branching ratio as a function of mass m_Q are obtained. For a coupling kappa_(qQ) = v/m_Q, where v is the Higgs vacuum expectation value…

Measurement ofKS0andK*0inp+p,d+Au, and Cu + Cu collisions atsNN=200 GeV

2014

The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has performed a systematic study of K-S(0) and K*(0) meson production at midrapidity in p + p, d + Au, and Cu + Cu collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV. The K-S(0) and K*(0) mesons are reconstructed via their K-S(0) -> pi(0)(-> gamma gamma) pi(0)(-> gamma gamma) and K*(0) -> K-+/-pi(-/+) decay modes, respectively. The measured transverse-momentum spectra are used to determine the nuclear modification factor of K-S(0) and K*(0) mesons in d + Au and Cu + Cu collisions at different centralities. In the d + Au collisions, the nuclear modification factor of K-S(0) and K*(0) mesons is almost constant as a function of transverse momentum a…

Search for scalar quarks in Z0 decays

1990

A search has been made for pairs of scalar quarks (squarks) produced in e+e- annihilations at LEP (√s≃MZ0), and decaying into a standard quark and a neutral, non-interacting, stable, massive particle (the lightest supersymmetric particle, LSP). The search has been conducted for differences in the mass of the squark and LSP of 2 GeV/c2 and above. Up squarks with masses below 42 GeV/c2 and down squarks below 43 GeV/c2 were excluded. Six squark flavours degenerate in mass were excluded below 45 GeV/c2.

Search for scalar bottom quarks and third-generation leptoquarks in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

2010

We report the results of a search for pair production of scalar bottom quarks ((b) over bar (1)) and scalar third-generation leptoquarks (LQ(3)) in 5.2 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at the D0 experiment of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Scalar bottom quarks are assumed to decay to a neutralino ((chi) over bar (1)(0)) and a b quark, and we set 95% C.L. lower limits on their production in the (m((b) over bar1), m((chi) over bar 10)) mass plane such as m((b) over bar1) > 247 GeV for m( 10) = 0 and m((chi) over bar 10) > 110 GeV for 160 m(<(b) over bar1) < 200 GeV. The leptoquarks are assumed to decay to a tau neutrino and a b quark, and we set a 95% C.L. lower limit of 247 GeV on the ma…

Resummed jet rates for $e^+e^-$ annihilation into massive quarks

2003

Expressions for Sudakov form factors for heavy quarks are presented. They are used to construct resummed jet rates for up to four jets in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. The coefficients of leading and next-to-leading logarithmic corrections, mandatory for a combination with higher order matrix elements, are evaluated up to second order in $\alpha_s$.

Strangeness production inpp annihilation at rest and the quark ? diquark structure of nucleons

1988

The importance of approximate isospin selection rules observed inN¯ N annihilation at rest into two strange mesons is emphasized. The selection rules are traced back to a symmetry between amplitudes describing annihilation by the flux of quarks. Presumably the symmetry reflects the symmetry of ¯qq annihilation vertices. The relation of the symmetry to a quark — diquark substructure of the nucleon is discussed.

Long Range Structure of the Nucleon

2010

The long range structure of the nucleon is discussed starting from the old model of a quark bag with a pion cloud (``cloudy bag'') carrying on to the more recent ideas of the parton model of the nucleon. On the basis of the most recent measurements of the form factors at MAMI, JLab and MIT quantitative results for nucleon charge densities are presented within both non-relativistic and relativistic frameworks.
