Search for techniparticles in e +jets events at D0

2006

We search for the technicolor process ppbar -> rho_T/omega_T ->W+pi_T in events containing one electron and two jets, in data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 390 pb-1, recorded by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. Technicolor predicts that technipions, pi_T, decay dominantly into b-bbar, b-cbar, or bbar-c, depending on their charge. In these events b and c quarks are identified by their secondary decay vertices within jets. Two analysis methods based on topological variables are presented. Since no excess above the standard model prediction was found, the result is presented as an exclusion in the pi_T vs. rho_T mass plane for a given set of model parameters.

Search for Maximal Flavor Violating Scalars in Same-Charge Lepton Pairs inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2009

Models of maximal flavor violation (MxFV) in elementary particle physics may contain at least one new scalar SU(2) doublet field {phi}{sub FV}=({eta}{sup 0},{eta}{sup +}) that couples the first and third generation quarks (q{sub 1}, q{sub 3}) via a Lagrangian term L{sub FV}={xi}{sub 13}{phi}{sub FV}q{sub 1}q{sub 3}. These models have a distinctive signature of same-charge top-quark pairs and evade flavor-changing limits from meson mixing measurements. Data corresponding to 2 fb{sup -1} collected by the Collider Dectector at Fermilab II detector in pp collisions at {radical}(s)=1.96 TeV are analyzed for evidence of the MxFV signature. For a neutral scalar {eta}{sup 0} with m{sub {eta}{sup 0}…

Charmonium spectroscopy above thresholds

2009

We present a systematic and self-consistent analysis of four-quark charmonium states and applied it to study compact four-quark systems and meson-meson molecules. Our results are robust and should serve to clarify the situation of charmonium spectroscopy above the threshold production of charmed mesons.

Heavy meson-antimeson molecules in effective field theory: The role of one pion exchange and heavy quark spin symmetry

2012

In this contribution we study heavy meson-antimeson molecules from the effective field theory perspective. In particular, we are concerned with the role of the one pion exchange interaction and heavy quark spin symmetry in the description of molecular states. As we will show, one pion exchange is in general a perturbative effect. This means that at lowest order we can describe the molecular states in terms of contact interactions only, a remarkable simplification. The application of heavy quark spin symmetry will be very interesting, as we will be able to predict new heavy meson-antimeson bound states from known ones. For instance, if we assume that the X(3872) is in fact a JPC = 1++ DD/DD …

Nucleon Structure Functions in a Constituent Quark Scenario

1999

Using a simple picture of the constituent quark as a composite system of point-like partons, we construct the polarized part on distributions by a convolution between constituent quark momentum distributions and constituent quark structure functions. We achieve good agreement with experiments in the unpolarized as well as in the polarized case, though a good description of the recent polarized neutron data requires the introduction of one more paramater. When our results are compared with similar calculations using non-composite constituent quarks, the accord with the experiments of the present scheme is impressive. We conclude that DIS data are consistent with a low energy scenario dominat…

Determination of sin^2(theta(eff)(w)) using jet charge measurements in hadronic Z decays

1996

The electroweak mixing angle is determined with high precision from measurements of the mean difference between forward and backward hemisphere charges in hadronic decays of the Z. A data sample of 2.5 million hadronic Z decays recorded over the period 1990 to 1994 in the ALEPH detector at LEP is used. The mean charge separation between event hemispheres containing the original quark and antiquark is measured for b (b) over bar and c (c) over bar events in subsamples selected by their long lifetimes or using fast D*'s. The corresponding average charge separation for light quarks is measured in an inclusive sample from the anticorrelation between charges of opposite hemispheres and agrees wi…

Exclusive semileptonic heavy meson decays including lepton mass effects

1990

We discuss the exclusive semi-leptonic (s.l.) bottom meson decaysB→D(D*)+l+v where we include non-zero lepton mass effects in the kinematics and dynamics. We develop the general formalism for the non-zero lepton mass case. We then look at how rates, spectra and angular correlations are affected by non-zero lepton masses in the context of a specific spectator quark model. Numerical results are presented for s.l. decays involving thee-, μ- and τ-leptons. We also discuss the s.l. decaysB→π(ρ),D→K(K*) and the free quark decay model.

Exclusive semi-leptonic decays of bottom mesons in the spectator quark model

1988

We calculate the exclusive semileptonic bottom meson decays\(B \to D(D*) + l^ - + \bar v_l \) in the spectator quark model. The helicity structure of the mesonic current transitionsB→D(D*) is matched to the helicity structure of the free quark current transitionsb→c at minimum momentum transferq2=0. The results are continued toq2≠=0 by pole-dominated form factors. Our results are compared to recent calculations that use quark model dynamics at maximum momentum transferq max 2 = (M1 −M2)2. We find agreement atq max 2 . Atq2=0 there are significant differences between the predictions of the two approaches leading to marked differences in the predictions for the shape of the lepton energy spec…

Spin, helicity and flavour patterns in exclusive decays of bottom mesons into baryon-antibaryon pairs

1989

I use the constituent quark model to calculate the exclusive decays of bottom mesons into ground state baryon-antibaryon pairs mediated by the weakb→c and b→u transitions. TheW-exchange contributions to these decays are found to be negligible. For theW-decay contributions I find that the simple colour-flavour structure of the 1/2+ and 3/2+ ground state baryons together with the current-current nonleptonic Hamiltonian leads to many simple and testable predictions. Notable among these is the predicted vanishing of decays involving 3/2+ baryons as in\(\overline {B^0 } (B^ - ) \to 3/2^ + \overline {1/2^ + } \) and\(\overline {B^0 } (B^ - ) \to 3/2^ + \overline {3/2^ + } \). An experimental veri…

Search for Pair Production of Light Scalar Top Quarks inpp¯Collisions ats=1.8  TeV

2004

Using 85.2+/-3.6 pb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions collected at roots=1.8 TeV with the D0 detector at Fermilab's Tevatron Collider, we present the results of a search for direct pair production of scalar top quarks ((t) over bar), the supersymmetric partners of the top quark. We examined events containing two or more jets and missing transverse energy, the signature of light scalar top quark decays to charm quarks and neutralinos. After selections, we observe 27 events while expecting 31.1+/-6.4 events from known standard model processes. Comparing these results to next-to-leading-order production cross sections, we exclude a significant region of (t) over tilde and neutralino phase space…
