Isomer shift and magnetic moment of the long-lived 1/2$^{+}$ isomer in $^{79}_{30}$Zn$_{49}$: signature of shape coexistence near $^{78}$Ni
2016
Collinear laser spectroscopy has been performed on the $^{79}_{30}$Zn$_{49}$ isotope at ISOLDE-CERN. The existence of a long-lived isomer with a few hundred milliseconds half-life was confirmed, and the nuclear spins and moments of the ground and isomeric states in $^{79}$Zn as well as the isomer shift were measured. From the observed hyperfine structures, spins $I = 9/2$ and $I = 1/2$ are firmly assigned to the ground and isomeric states. The magnetic moment $\mu$ ($^{79}$Zn) = $-$1.1866(10) $\mu_{\rm{N}}$, confirms the spin-parity $9/2^{+}$ with a $\nu g_{9/2}^{-1}$ shell-model configuration, in excellent agreement with the prediction from large scale shell-model theories. The magnetic mo…
Spectroscopy of $^{46}$Ar by the (t,p) two-neutron transfer reaction
2016
States in the $N=28$ nucleus $^{46}$Ar have been studied by a two-neutron transfer reaction at REX-ISOLDE (CERN). A beam of radioactive $^{44}$ at an energy of 2.16~AMeV and a tritium loaded titanium target were used to populate $^{46}$ by the t($^{44}$,p) two-neutron transfer reaction. Protons emitted from the target were identified in the T-REX silicon detector array. The excitation energies of states in $^{46}$ have been reconstructed from the measured angles and energies of recoil protons. Angular distributions for three final states were measured and based on the shape of the differential cross section an excited state at 3695~keV has been identified as $J^\pi = 0^+$. The angular diffe…
First observation of a baryonic Bc+ decay
2014
A baryonic decay of the $B_c^+$ meson, $B_c^+\to J/\psi p\overline{p}\pi^+$, is observed for the first time, with a significance of $7.3$ standard deviations, in $pp$ collision data collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3.0$ fb$^{-1}$ taken at center-of-mass energies of $7$ and $8$ $\mathrm{TeV}$. With the $B_c^+\to J/\psi \pi^+$ decay as normalization channel, the ratio of branching fractions is measured to be \begin{equation*} \frac{\mathcal{B}(B_c^+\to J/\psi p\overline{p}\pi^+)}{\mathcal{B}(B_c^+\to J/\psi \pi^+)} = 0.143^{\,+\,0.039}_{\,-\,0.034}\,(\mathrm{stat})\pm0.013\,(\mathrm{syst}). \end{equation*} The mass of the $B_c^+$ meson is dete…
Precision Measurement of the Mass and Lifetime of the Ξ[0 over b] Baryon
2014
Using a proton-proton collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$ collected by LHCb at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, about 3800 $\Xi_b^0\to\Xi_c^+\pi^-$, $\Xi_c^+\to pK^-\pi^+$ signal decays are reconstructed. From this sample, the first measurement of the $\Xi_b^0$ baryon lifetime is made, relative to that of the $\Lambda_b^0$ baryon. The mass differences $M(\Xi_b^0)-M(\Lambda_b^0)$ and $M(\Xi_c^+)-M(\Lambda_c^+)$ are also measured with precision more than four times better than the current world averages. The resulting values are $\frac{\tau_{\Xi_b^0}}{\tau_{\Lambda_b^0}} = 1.006\pm0.018\pm0.010$, $M(\Xi_b^0) - M(\Lambda_b^0) = 172.44\pm0.39\pm…
One-pion production in neutrino-nucleus collisions
2013
We use our model for neutrino pion production on the nucleon to study pion production on a nucleus. The model is conveniently modified to include in-medium corrections and its validity is extended up to 2 GeV neutrino energies by the inclusion of new resonant contributions in the production process. Our results are compared with recent MiniBooNE data measured in mineral oil. Our total cross sections are below data for neutrino energies above 1 GeV. As with other theoretical calculations, the agreement with data improves if we neglect pion final state interaction. This is also the case for differential cross sections convoluted over the neutrino flux.
Neutron-proton pairing correlations in a single l-shell model
2017
The long standing problem of neutron-proton pairing correlations is revisited by employing the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov formalism with neutron-proton mixing in both the particle-hole and particle-hole channels. We compare numerical calculations performed within this method with an exact pairing model based on the $SO(8)$ algebra. The neutron-proton mixing is included in our calculations by performing rotations in the isospin space using the isocranking technique.
Effects of $CP$-violating internucleon interactions in paramagnetic molecules
2020
We demonstrate that electron electric dipole moment experiments with molecules in paramagnetic state are sensitive to $P,T$-violating nuclear forces and other $CP$-violating parameters in the hadronic sector. These experiments, in particular, measure the coupling constant $C_{SP}$ of the $CP$-odd contact semileptonic interaction. We establish relations between $C_{SP}$ and different $CP$-violating hadronic parameters including strength constants of the $CP$-odd nuclear potentials, $CP$-odd pion-nucleon interactions, quark-chromo EDM and QCD vacuum angle. These relations allow us to find limits on various $CP$-odd hadronic parameters.
High-spin spectroscopy of 140Nd
2013
The population of the high-spin states in 140Nd was investigated using the reaction 96Zr(48Ca,4n). The results from two experiments, one with the EUROBALL array and one with the JUROGAM II + RITU + GREAT setup employing the recoil decay tagging technique, have been combined to develop a very detailed level scheme for 140Nd. Twelve bands of quadrupole transitions and eleven bands of dipole transitions were identified and their connections to low-lying states were established. Calculations using the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky and the tilted axis cranking models were used to interpret the observed structures. The overall good agreement between the experimental results and the calculations assu…
Electromagnetic transition strengths in 109Te
2012
Lifetime measurements have been made in the neutron-deficient nucleus 109Te using the coincident recoil distance Doppler-shift method. The experimental B(E2) values have been compared with state-of-the-art shellmodel calculations using the monopole-corrected realistic charge-dependent Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential. Lifetimes in the νh11/2 band are consistent with an interpretation based on the deformation driving properties of a single valence neutron outside of the even-even tellurium core and highlight the unexpected presence of collective behavior as the N = 50 shell closure is approached. Lifetime measurements for the low-lying positive-parity states also appear to correlate well with …
First observation of excited states of 173Hg
2012
The neutron-deficient nucleus 173Hg has been studied following fusion-evaporation reactions. The observation of the decay of excited states via γ radiation are reported for the first time and a tentative level scheme is proposed. The proposed level scheme is discussed within the context of the systematics of neighboring neutron-deficient Hg nuclei. In addition to the γ -ray spectroscopy, the α decay of this nucleus has been measured yielding superior precision to earlier measurements. peerReviewed
