AbstractThe neoplasms of the salivary glands account for 2% of head and neck tumors and the most common form is the Pleomorphic adenoma (PA). Parotid gland is affected from 80% to 90% of cases. In elderly these tumors occur mostly in females. These benign tumors are composed of epithelial and myoepithelial cells that are arranged with various morphological patterns and subtypes. CT after enucleation of renal cell carcinoma.

Computed tomography (CT) was performed in 28 patients 2 weeks to 120 months after enucleation of renal cell carcinoma. The postoperative defect could be exactly localized in all patients. A wedge-shaped (N = 11) or concave (N = 9) morphology was typical. No dependence between morphology of the defect and localization or size of the tumor or the operative technique was observed. The defects were smaller (1.9 cm) than the original prominent tumors (3.6 cm). Phase evolution by thermal treatment of equimolar cobalt–magnesium cordierite glass powders

Abstract The structural evolution with annealing time at temperatures between 900 and 1100 °C of loosely compacted equimolar cobalt–magnesium cordierite glass powder was reported. The glass, with composition MgCoAl4Si5O18, was prepared by melting a glass precursor, previously synthesized by a semiwet method, at 1650 °C. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) of isothermally heated glasses at 900 and 950 °C revealed increased phase separation with thermal treatment. On the origin of the sigmoid shape in the UO2 oxidation weight gain curves

International audience; Cracking and spalling are known to occur during the oxidation of UO2. However, these phenomena are not considered by the existing kinetic models of the oxidation of UO2 into U3O8. In this study the oxidation of UO2 samples of various sizes from the single crystal to nanopowders, has been followed by isothermal and isobaric thermogravimetry, environmental scanning electron microscopy and in situ X-ray diffraction at temperatures ranging from 250 to 370°C in air. Ordering of fluorite-type phases in erbium-doped oxyfluoride glass ceramics

Heterogeneous nucleation of a droplet pinned at a chemically inhomogeneous substrate: A simulation study of the two-dimensional Ising case

Heterogeneous nucleation is studied by Monte Carlo simulations and phenomenological theory, using the two-dimensional lattice gas model with suitable boundary fields. A chemical inhomogeneity of length b at one boundary favors the liquid phase, while elsewhere the vapor is favored. Formation of Laves phases in buoyancy matched hard sphere suspensions.

Colloidal Laves phases (LPs) are promising precursors for photonic materials. Laves phases have not yet been observed to form in experiments on colloidal suspensions of hard spheres (HS), even though they have been reported in computer simulations. Strain-controlled domain wall injection into nanowires for sensor applications

We investigate experimentally the effects of externally applied strain on the injection of 180$^\circ$ domain walls (DW) from a nucleation pad into magnetic nanowires, as typically used for DW-based sensors. In our study the strain, generated by substrate bending, induces in the material a uniaxial anisotropy due to magnetoelastic coupling. To compare the strain effects, $Co_{40}Fe_{40}B_{20}$, $Ni$ and $Ni_{82}Fe_{18}$ samples with in-plane magnetization and different magnetoelastic coupling are deposited.
