I artikeln belyses hur individer upplever sjukdom och diagnos genom personliga erfarenhetsberättelser om diabetes typ 1. Med artikeln strävas efter att besvara frågorna: Hur berättar personer med diabetes typ 1 om att insjukna i diabetes? Vad karaktäriserar en diagnosberättelse? I analysen av berättelserna tas avstamp i medicinsociologen Arthur Franks teori om tre typer av narrativ (återgångsberättelser, kaosberättelser och utforskande berättelser). Genetic and environmental effects on body mass index during adolescence: a prospective study among Finnish twins

Objective: To study genetic and environmental factors affecting body mass index (BMI) and BMI phenotypic correlations across adolescence. Design: Prospective, population-based, twin cohort study. Participants and methods: We used twin modeling in 2413 monozygotic and same-sex and opposite-sex dizygotic Finnish twin pairs born in 1983–1987 and assessed using self-report questionnaires at 11–12, 14 and 17 years of age. Results: Heritability of BMI was estimated to be 0.58–0.69 among 11–12- and 14-year-old boys and girls, 0.83 among 17-year-old boys and 0.74 among 17-year-old girls. Both The Gambia and Tanzania have high rates of under-18 marriage for girls and both also raised the legal age of marriage for girls to 18 in 2016. This ethnographic study of the urban Muslim poor in Tanzania and The Gambia explores the causes behind and meanings of early marriage in these countries and discusses the likelihood of the recent legislative changes to have effect on actual practice among the poor in the towns and cities of these countries.

Enteroviruses are one of the most abundant viruses causing mild to serious acute infections in humans and also contributing to chronic diseases like type 1 diabetes. Presently, there are no approved antiviral drugs against enteroviruses. Here, we studied the potency of vemurafenib, an FDA-approved RAF kinase inhibitor for treating BRAFV600E mutant-related melanoma, as an antiviral against enteroviruses. We showed that vemurafenib prevented enterovirus translation and replication at low micromolar dosage in an RAF/MEK/ERK-independent manner. Health behaviors in youth can predict the same behaviors later in life, but the role of sport participation in predicting healthy lifestyle habits is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between participation in organized youth sport and adult healthy lifestyle habits. Data from the longitudinal Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study (YFS) with a 28‐year follow‐up were used. Tutkimuksen tehtävänä on selvittää, miksi äitiys siirtyy myöhemmälle iälle ja kuinka yli 35-vuotiaat ensisynnyttäjät kokevat kypsän äitiyden. Tutkimusaineistona on käytetty naistenlehtien ja perhelehtien haastatteluja vuosilta 2000–2006. Tutkimusongelman ollessa kaksiosainen, myös analyysissä on käytetty kahta menetelmää. Ensin tutkimuksessa etsitään vastausta, miksi äitiys siirtyy myöhemmälle iälle. Tässä osassa analyysimenetelmänä on käytetty tyypittelyä.
