Implementing a new pedagogy in the nursing curriculum: Bachelor students’ evaluation
2017

Contents of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Subject in the Undergraduate Nursing Curricula of Spanish Universities, a Cross Sectional Study

Digital Game-Based Learning: A Supplement for Medication Calculation Drills in Nurse Education
2014
Student nurses, globally, appear to struggle with medication calculations. In order to improve these skills among student nurses, the authors developed The Medication Game – an online computer game that aims to provide simple mathematical and medical calculation drills, and help students practise standard medical units and expressions. The aim of this study was to examine whether baccalaureate student nurses who played The Medication Game as a supplement to lectures and task-solving during a medication calculation course improved their examination results compared to a control group who used lectures and task-solving only. The authors used a randomised controlled design to study 201 studen…
Data analysis method for evaluating dialogic learning
2001
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new method of analysing and evaluating dialogic learning. Dialogic learning offers possibilities that have not previously been found in nursing or nursing education, although some nursing researchers have lately become interested in dialogic nursing interaction between nurses and patients. The stages of analysis of dialogic learning have been illustrated by using an example. The data for this illustration were collected by video-taping a planning process where students for a Master’s degree (qualifying them to be nursing instructors in Finland) plan, implement and evaluate a course for nursing students, on the care of terminally ill patie…
Teaching practice as a testbench of learning in master's degree education for nurse teachers in Finland.
1998
This article presents the approach and procedures used in a Finnish developmental study on nurse teacher education. The teaching practice period was organized by dividing student teachers into small study groups and assigning the group an entire course to be planned and carried out in teacher/student collaboration. The work process of the groups was videotaped and analysed qualitatively. Preliminary results and ideas concerning the developmental needs of nurse teacher education are presented.
Sustainability in Nursing Education
2015
This chapter, Sustainability in nursing education, Ashild Slettebo argues how sustainability can be integrated into nursing training and education. A key here is for the students to be able to develop a comprehensive perspective on nursing. The chapter uses different definitions of sustainability, linked to an account of responsibilities of nurses. It has a useful discussion of practical examples on how nursing education can have a wider impact in universities, in terms of sustainability.
Customising clinical studies for the new nursing generation

The faculty, teachers and nurses will face challenges in meeting this new generation’s needs. The primary aim of this discussion paper is to explore and compare the current clinical studies in the five Nordic countries. The secondary aim is to find means to address the future challenges with a focus on the new generation. The idea of Objective Structured Clinical Reflection creates the possibility to d…

This study aims to describe the extension and characteristics of palliative care education within all of the nursing degree curricula in Italy, as well as to what extent their topics match the European Society of Palliative Care guide. A descriptive study was conducted through the universities web pages. For each degree, the curricula of the academic years from 2010 to…
