The care of the informal caregiver's burden by the Spanish public system of social welfare: a review.

2010

Abstract This work analyzes the public social services system developed in Spain to attend dependent persons and their informal caregivers, examining in a more detailed way the current capacity of the Spanish public In-Home Help Service (HHS) to meet the demands of dependent elderly persons and its impact on their informal caregiver's burden. We begin with a brief introduction of the services by the Spanish public social services system developed to attend dependency; next, the evolution of the Spanish public HHS is described in a thorough way to identify the pros and cons of this service regarding the informal caregivers’ burden of dependent elders. Finally, recommendations are proposed to…

Nursing home vouchers in Spain: the Valencian experience

2002

The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate the innovative nursing home voucher scheme that was introduced by the Valencia Autonomous Region of Spain in the early 1990s to implement targets laid down by the national plan for the development of older people's services. The article begins with a review of the evolution of Spanish social services, and especially the nursing home sector, and then summarises the genesis, objectives and characteristics of the voucher scheme. The main part of the paper reports a performance analysis and economic evaluation of the programme. On the basis of detailed information over four years, it is concluded that nursing home vouchers have contributed to the in…

Parents' experiences of early support.

2012

In Finland, support for families with children is given, as far as possible, as part of basic services. However, to support basic services, services of this kind have also been generated as the result of several projects. The public sector itself has been reorganized and reformed to more resemble a project. In this article, the experiences of parents with children receiving project-based support are studied qualitatively. Preventive support was offered via child health and maternity clinics in the form of home visiting. The reform of the municipal and service structure has made the development of preventive services an issue of even greater current relevance. The purpose of the study was to…

La satisfacción del cliente como indicador de calidad en neurorehabilitación

2015

This paper tries to determine customer satisfaction degree from two perspectives: outsider customer (primary in patient and secondary in relatives) and insider customer (employee), being all of them indicators of quality of care in a neurorehabilitation centre. Results support clinician tendency of introducing patient satisfaction degree as an indicator, like effectiveness or efficiency, in order to value success treatment. This tendency allows to coordinate all actions in health care design in a such way that integrates professionals, patients and, in the case of a neurorehabilitation service, relatives perspectives.

Providing timely quality care after-hours: Perceptions of a hospital model of care

2019

Abstract Background Nurses working night shift are key-players in the acute care team, however, their work environment has been characterised by suboptimal leadership, communication inadequacies, limited resources, and a lack of adequate support. Aim The aim of this study was to investigate nurses' perceptions of the Hospital at Night Team, a nursing model of care implemented to provide timely quality nursing care after-hours. Methods The study used a descriptive design. Five focus groups were conducted, with a total of 34 nurses from 14 wards across a 600+ bed tertiary referral teaching hospital in Melbourne, Australia, one year after the Hospital at Night Team implementation. Focus group …

MAGICPL: A Generic Process Description Language for Distributed Pseudonymization Scenarios

2021

Abstract Objectives Pseudonymization is an important aspect of projects dealing with sensitive patient data. Most projects build their own specialized, hard-coded, solutions. However, these overlap in many aspects of their functionality. As any re-implementation binds resources, we would like to propose a solution that facilitates and encourages the reuse of existing components. Methods We analyzed already-established data protection concepts to gain an insight into their common features and the ways in which their components were linked together. We found that we could represent these pseudonymization processes with a simple descriptive language, which we have called MAGICPL, plus a relati…

GPCALMA: A Grid-based tool for mammographic screening

2005

The next generation of High Energy Physics (HEP) experiments requires a GRID approach to a distributed computing system and the associated data management: the key concept is the Virtual Organisation (VO), a group of distributed users with a common goal and the will to share their resources. A similar approach is being applied to a group of Hospitals which joined the GPCALMA project (Grid Platform for Computer Assisted Library for MAmmography), which will allow common screening programs for early diagnosis of breast and, in the future, lung cancer. HEP techniques come into play in writing the application code, which makes use of neural networks for the image analysis and proved to be useful…

A SOCIAL EXPERIMENT TO OVERTURN PREJUDICES ON ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE IN NURSING HOMES USING ARTISTIC PHOTOGRAPHY

2016

It is widely known that Alzheimer’s disease is burdened with strong prejudices with negative connotations. This may contribute to increase patient’s isolation and marginalization, and to render Nursing Homes places of confinement and seclusion. Residents with dementia have trouble in relating with the outside world and in expressing themselves about their own disease, due to their cognitive decline, but also because of marginalization. We used artistic photography as an accessible and effective tool to bring down barriers and encourage residents’ communication. Artistic photography is the most immediate and accessible form of art for all people. The aim of our social experiment was to help …
