The purpose of this article is to qualitatively describe and critically explain the discursive construction of employee co-operation negotiations in Finland as an arena for management-by-fear. The article consists of a theoretical review, covering the legislative basis of co-operation negotiations and recent research on management-by-fear. The empirical study consists of media texts and company media releases in Finland in 2012–2013. This chapter reports from a case study which focuses on the coordination of turn-taking within two small groups of kindergarten children (age 5–6) working on addition problems. The two segments of small group interaction were analysed from a multimodal, interpretative perspective. Drawing on Radford’s (J Res Math Educ, 2:7–44, 2013) theory of knowledge objectification, the study explores the characteristics of children’s turn-taking and what role children’s organisation of turn-taking plays in the movement of the joint activity, and thus for the materialisation of their mathematical thinking. Abstract The study follows the archetype - prototype - stereotype path in the evolution of the plastic model, in order to capture the organic connection between these notions specific to iconic language. The chronology is reversed to capture a contemporary stereotype of advertising images, as a result of an apparent form of expression of female emancipation: the erotic objectification of man. Far from being just „trendy”, the visual motif has a whole history that deserves to be pointed out as the different approaches always reflect the spirit of that era.

Predictors of enhancing human physical attractiveness: Data from 93 countries

People across the world and throughout history have gone to great lengths to enhance their physical appearance. Evolutionary psychologists and ethologists have largely attempted to explain this phenomenon via mating preferences and strategies. Here, we test one of the most popular evolutionary hypotheses for beauty-enhancing behaviors, drawn from mating market and parasite stress perspectives, in a large cross-cultural sample. We also test hypotheses drawn from other influential and non-mutually exclusive theoretical frameworks, from biosocial role theory to a cultural media perspective. Chess Thinking and Configural Concepts

The purpose of this work is to connect chess and mathematics education. First, we introduce the idea of configural concepts in chess thinking and then we outline a scheme to show the phases of chess reasoning and how to apply this idea to some conflictual situations. We conclude this work proposing two research problems in introducing chess in mathematical classroom activities.

Aim of this work is to improve the social interactions within a math classrooms (6 th grade), introducing a chess activity during the curricula hours. The theoretical framework upon which this research is based consists of: Vygotsky’s Theory of child developmen t (Vygotsky, 1986), the knowledge objectification theory (Radford, 2006) and theory of configural concepts (a personal review of Fischbein’s theory of figural concepts). We will discuss the results of an experimentation that has the purpose to create an appropriate environment wher e the students develop the abilities to solve and pose problems.
