Blood Component Therapy and Coagulopathy in Trauma: A Systematic Review of the Literature from the Trauma Update Group
2016
Background Traumatic coagulopathy is thought to increase mortality and its treatment to reduce preventable deaths. However, there is still uncertainty in this field, and available literature results may have been overestimated. Methods We searched the MEDLINE database using the PubMed platform. We formulated four queries investigating the prognostic weight of traumatic coagulopathy defined according to conventional laboratory testing, and the effectiveness in reducing mortality of three different treatments aimed at contrasting coagulopathy (high fresh frozen plasma/packed red blood cells ratios, fibrinogen, and tranexamic acid administration). Randomized controlled trials were selected alo…

Patients' sex and emotional support as predictors of death and clinical deterioration in the Waiting for a New Heart Study: results from the 1-year f…
2011
Context—Little is known about the role of patient's sex and emotional support in the prognosis of heart transplant candidates. Objective—To examine patient's sex and emotional support as predictors of outcomes in the Waiting for a New Heart Study.Design, Setting, and Participants—The Waiting for a New Heart Study is a prospective observational study of 318 patients (18% female) newly added to the waiting list for a heart transplant. Demographic, medical, psychosocial characteristics (including social support [ENRICHD Social Support Index; high vs low support]) were assessed at the time of wait-listing.Main Outcomes—Time until death/delisting due to deteriorated health, considering competing …
Advanced Virgo Status
2015
Abstract The detection of a gravitational wave signal in September 2015 by LIGO interferometers, announced jointly by LIGO collaboration and Virgo collaboration in February 2016, opened a new era in Astrophysics and brought to the whole community a new way to look at - or “listen” to - the Universe. In this regard, the next big step was the joint observation with at least three detectors at the same time. This configuration provides a twofold benefit: it increases the signal-to-noise ratio of the events by means of triple coincidence and allows a narrower pinpointing of GW sources, and, in turn, the search for Electromagnetic counterparts to GW signals. Advanced Virgo (AdV) is the second ge…
Clinical profiles and quality of care of adults with type 1 diabetes according to their cardiovascular Risk: A Multicenter, Observational, retrospect…
2021
Abstract Aims The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) recently defined cardiovascular risk classes for subjects with diabetes. Aim of this study was to explore the distribution of subjects with type 1 diabetes (T1D) by cardiovascular risk groups according to the ESC classification and to describe the quality indicators of care. Methods The study is based on data extracted from electronic medical records of patients treated at the 258 Italian diabetes centers participating in the AMD (Associazione Medici Diabetologi) Annals initiative. Patients with T1D were stratified by cardiovascular risk. Measures of intermediate outcomes, intensity/appropriateness of pharmacological treatment, and over…
Typologies of the Understanding of the Experience Notion in Pedagogy
2019
The aim of this paper is to present possible typologies of experience and to point out the need to allow for the multidimensionality of experience categories in pedagogical research. Since experience is primarily a philosophical concept, the first section presents a generally acceptable definition of experience. The second section refers to the main philosophical, epistemological and methodological typologies of experience. The last of the typologies which may be of particular use in pedagogy has been discussed in the third section. It describes experience as an activity, its production (result), and a way of perceiving something. This typology organises the types of understanding experienc…
Predictors of mortality in COPD patients after hospitalization due to an exacerbation
2019
Aim: Identify factors related to mortality at 6 months after hospitalization by an acute COPD exacerbation (AECOPD). Method: We performed a 12-month prospective, observational study (July 2017-June 2018) that included COPD patients admitted by an AECOPD. Sociodemographic data, comorbidities, functional and clinical parameters were collected. Mortality at 6 months of admission was considered the end point. Results: 278 consecutive patients were enrolled, of whom 48 (16.2%) died during 6 months after AECOPD. Univariate analysis showed that age (p Conclusions: In COPD patients, Barthel Index, grade of dyspnea and previous hospitalizations are independent risk factors for mortality at 6 months,…
Satisfaction with the clinical practice among nursing students using regression models and qualitative comparative analysis
2020
Abstract Background Clinical practice is considered fundamental in nursing studies for the effective education of nurses and students' satisfaction. Both the clinical environment and the clinical educator are key factors in students´ satisfaction. Objectives To analyze the influence of the socio-demographic variables of clinical educators and nursing students on satisfaction with the clinical practice. Design This was an observational, cross-sectional study. Settings A clinical practice course at a private university in Valencia, Spain. Participants The study included 527 nursing students enrolled on the clinical practice, supervised by 187 clinical educators. Methods Two statistical method…
Nursing students and depressive symptomatology: an observational study in University of Palermo
2019
Purpose Depression is a common and serious medical illness, considered as a public health issue because it interferes with the interpersonal, social and professional functioning of the individual, and its frequency is constantly increasing. According to a recent review, approximately 34 per cent of nursing students had experienced depression worldwide. The university period may represent a moment in which the mental well-being of students is subjected to stress with a relative predisposition to the development of diseases related to mood disorders. The purpose of this study is to estimate the prevalence and examine the socio-demographic correlates of depressive symptomatology. Design/metho…
ean-Square Filtering for Polynomial System States Confused with Poisson Noises over Polynomial Observations
2011
Published version of an article in the journal: Modeling, Identification and Control. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.4173/mic.2011.2.1 In this paper, the mean-square filtering problem for polynomial system states confused with white Poisson noises over polynomial observations is studied proceeding from the general expression for the stochastic Ito differentials of the mean-square estimate and the error variance. In contrast to the previously obtained results, the paper deals with the general case of nonlinear polynomial states and observations with white Poisson noises. As a result, the Ito differentials for the mean-square estimate and error variance corre- spon…
