Multiple nevoid spiradenomas.
1994
This report delineates a new clinical presentation of multiple benign spiradenoma (BS), a diffuse linear nevoid pattern. A 16-year-old girl, in otherwise good health, had many papulonodular lesions, varying in color from blue-gray to bright red, disposed linearly on the right half of her body, involving the periorbital region, cheek, lateral side of the neck, trunk, linea alba, right thigh, and leg. Only a few nodules were slightly painful. Lesions were reported to be present at birth; no family members had similar lesions, either in solitary or multiple form. Excisional biopsies of three lesions from the neck, abdomen, and leg, respectively, were performed; histologically, all three sample…
Alcohol consumption and risk of uterine myoma: A systematic review and meta analysis
2017
Background The published data about alcohol consumption and uterine myoma are scanty and controversial: some studies found positive association whereas other studies showed no association. Objectives To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine whether alcohol is a risk factor for myoma. Search strategy A MEDLINE/EMBASE search was carried out, supplemented by manual searches of bibliographies of the selected studies. Selection criteria Articles published as full-length papers in English. In the review we included all identified studies. Otherwise, the inclusion criteria for studies included in the meta-analysis were: a) case-control or cohort studies, reporting original dat…
Single-cell RNA sequencing of oocytes from ovarian endometriosis patients reveals a differential transcriptomic profile associated with lower quality
2018
Abstract STUDY QUESTION Do oocytes from women with ovarian endometriosis (OE) have a different transcriptomic profile than those from healthy women? SUMMARY ANSWER Oocytes from endometriosis patients, independently of whether they came from the affected ovary, exhibited a differential transcriptomic profile compared to oocytes from healthy egg donors. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Studies of endometriosis have sought to determine whether OE affects oocyte quality. While many reports indicate that oocytes recovered from endometriotic ovaries may be affected by the disease, other studies have found no significant differences among oocyte/embryo quality and fertilization, implantation and pregnancy ra…
The Endobiota Study: Comparison of Vaginal, Cervical and Gut Microbiota Between Women with Stage 3/4 Endometriosis and Healthy Controls
2019
Dysbiosis in the genital tract or gut microbiome can be associated with endometriosis. We sampled vaginal, cervical and gut microbiota from 14 women with histology proven stage 3/4 endometriosis and 14 healthy controls. The V3 and V4 regions of the 16S rRNA gene were amplified following the 16S Metagenomic Sequencing Library Preparation. Despite overall similar vaginal, cervical and intestinal microbiota composition between stage 3/4 endometriosis group and controls, we observed differences at genus level. The complete absence of Atopobium in the vaginal and cervical microbiota of the stage 3/4 endometriosis group was noteworthy. In the cervical microbiota, Gardnerella, Streptococcus, Esche…
Relationship between apoptosis and survival molecules in human cumulus cells as markers of oocyte competence
2017
SummaryTo select from a single patient the best oocytes able to reach the blastocyst stage, we searched for valuable markers for oocytes competence. We evaluated the DNA fragmentation index (DFI) and the level of some survival molecules, such as AKT, pAKT and pERK1/2, in individual cumulus cell–oocyte complexes (COC). The study included normo-responder women. The average age of the patients was 34.3. DFI in cumulus cells was evaluated using the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) dUTP nick-end labelling (TUNEL) assayin situ. AKT, pAKT and pERK1/2 were measured by immunological assay and densitometric analysis of fluorescent signals using NIS-Elements BR 3.10 image software. Statisti…
Endometrial receptivity revisited: endometrial transcriptome adjusted for tissue cellular heterogeneity
2018
Study question Does cellular composition of the endometrial biopsy affect the gene expression profile of endometrial whole-tissue samples? Summary answer The differences in epithelial and stromal cell proportions in endometrial biopsies modify the whole-tissue gene expression profiles and affect the results of differential expression analyses. What is already known Each cell type has its unique gene expression profile. The proportions of epithelial and stromal cells vary in endometrial tissue during the menstrual cycle, along with individual and technical variation due to the method and tools used to obtain the tissue biopsy. Study design, size, duration Using cell-population specific trans…
Prediction of embryo survival and live birth rates after cryotransfers of vitrified blastocysts
2020
Which pre-vitrification parameters are the most predictive of survival and live birth in vitrified-warmed blastocyst transfer cycles?A retrospective study including 11,936 warmed blastocysts. Pre-vitrification morphological parameters analysed for blastocysts included day of vitrification; blastocyst expansion degree; trophoectoderm grade (A, B and C); and inner cell mass grade (A, B and C). Univariate and multivariate generalized estimating equations models were used to analyse survival, clinical pregnancy and live birth rate. A stepwise regression analysis was conducted to select and classify by order which outcomes were the most predictive. The odds of survival increased almost twice for …

Cervical pregnancy in assisted reproduction: an analysis of risk factors in 91,067 ongoing pregnancies
2019
Abstract Research question What is the frequency of cervical pregnancy in women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies (ART) and what are the risk factors? Design Case-control study of women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) at 25 private assisted reproduction clinics run by the same group in Spain. Two control groups (tubal ectopic pregnancies and intrauterine pregnancies) were established. The main outcome measure was frequency of cervical pregnancy. Demographic, clinical factors and IVF parameters were assessed for their influence on cervical pregnancy risk. Results Thirty-two clinical pregnancies were achieved out of 91,067 ongoing pregnancies, yielding a rate of …
