Oral Health Knowledge and Related Factors among Pregnant Women Attending to a Primary Care Center in Spain

2019

Our aim was to assess the knowledge of pregnant women in terms of oral health and prevention, correlating it with socio-sanitary and educational factors, as well as self-care and oral health state referred. A total of 139 women from a Health Department in Comunidad Valenciana (Valencia, Spain) participated in the study. They underwent an auto-administered survey which included socio-economic and educational factors, self-care in terms of oral hygiene, referred oral health state, and general knowledge on prevention and oral health. Screening for breast and cervical cancer in a large German city: participation, motivation and knowledge of risk factors.

2005

Few data exist on attendance for cervical and breast cancer screening, breast self-examination and knowledge about risk factors for cervical cancer among German women. A population-based survey was performed in the city of Bielefeld in Germany.A questionnaire was mailed to 1500 randomly selected women age 25 to 75. Of those, 540 questionnaires were returned and 532 were analysed.Women participating in the survey considered themselves well informed about possibilities for early detection of breast cancer (84.0%). Most information was received from office-based gynaecologists (82.4%). 82.8% had a breast examination by a medical doctor annually and 43.1% practised breast self-examination every…

Peripheral androgen blockade versus glandular androgen suppression in the treatment of hirsutism.

1991

Hirsutism in women is often explained on the basis of abnormal peripheral androgen metabolism. To determine whether serum markers of ovarian, adrenal, or peripheral androgen production may be helpful determinants in the treatment of hirsutism and to compare the efficacy of treatment with dexamethasone or spironolactone, 20 hyperandrogenic hirsute patients were treated for up to 2 years. Eleven women who were selected on the basis of sensitivity to dexamethasone were treated with a daily dose of 0.37 mg dexamethasone and had androgen levels suppressed into the normal range. Although significant (P less than .05), Ferriman-Gallwey scores decreased only by 20%: 14.2 +/- 0.5 to 11.4 +/- 0.6. Ni…

Small-diameter hysteroscopy with Versapoint versus resectoscopy with a unipolar knife for the treatment of septate uterus: A prospective randomized s…

2007

Abstract Study objective To compare 2 procedures for metroplasty: resectoscopy with monopolar knife versus small-diameter hysteroscopy fitted with a Versapoint device. Design Prospective randomized study (Canadian Task Force classification I). Setting Endoscopic gynecology units at tertiary care university hospitals. Patients One hundred-sixty patients with septate uterus and a history of recurrent abortion or primary infertility undergoing hysteroscopic metroplasty from 2001 to 2005. Interventions Hysteroscopic resection of the uterine septum performed with either a 26F resectoscope with unipolar knife (80 women, group A) or a 5-mm diameter hysteroscope with Versapoint device (80 women, gr…

Report on a very young dizygotic human twin pregnancy.

1981

Two ova implanted in one uterus were found at the autopsy of a 28-year-old woman. The ovulation age of both implantations has been estimated to be 10–12 days. The presence of two equally large corpora lutea, one in each ovary, indicates that the implanted ova originated from different ovaries. Thus, an “ovulatio biovarialis” seems to be the basis for the dizygotic twinning in this case. The case is believed to be the only documented example of a very early dizygotic, fraternal pregnancy in humans.

A randomized comparison of endometrial laser intrauterine thermotherapy and hysteroscopic endometrial resection.

2003

Objective To investigate the difference of long-term amenorrhea rate in patients with menorrhagia treated by endometrial laser intrauterine thermal therapy (ELITT), a new nonhysteroscopic endometrial ablation procedure, versus transcervical hysteroscopic endometrial resection (TCRE). Design Randomized clinical study. Healthy volunteers in an academic research environment. Setting Academic teaching hospital. Patient(s) Premenopausal women with abnormal uterine bleeding. Intervention(s) Fifty-eight patients were treated with the ELITT procedure and 58 patients with TCRE; both groups were treated with GnRH agonists before the procedure. Main outcome measure(s) Bleeding status and patient satis…

Laparoscopic Splenectomy for Secondary Cytoreduction in Ovarian Cancer Patients With Localized Spleen Recurrence: Feasibility and Technique

2016

Abstract Study Objective To investigate the feasibility of laparoscopic splenectomy in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer with isolated spleen metastasis. Design (Canadian Task Force classification III). Setting Tertiary referral centre in Rome, Italy. Patients Eight women with an isolated platinum-sensitive splenic relapse of ovarian cancer. Intervention Between February 2013 and May 2015, 8 women with an isolated platinum-sensitive splenic relapse of ovarian cancer were submitted to laparoscopic splenectomy. Measurements and Main Results All patients underwent laparoscopic splenectomy without conversion to an open approach. The median estimated intraoperative blood loss was 100 mL (ra…
