RECYCLING SPENT COFFEE WASTE FOR INNOVATIVE THERMO-PLASTERS: DEVELOPMENT OF A PROTOTYPE
2022
This paper presents an experimental study aimed at testing the real energy performance of a thermo-plaster prototype made of an ordinary mortar boosted by various percentages of spent coffee ground. That is one of the wastes of the brewing process that are usually disposed of in landfill with great concerns for the possible environmental footprint due to its organic nature and possible harmful components. In this paper, the mortar was manufactured froman ordinary Portland cement and sand, partially substituted by the waste. Specimens characterization is briefly outlined and a careful examination of the thermal properties is carried out. A plastering prototype was manufactured and placed in …

Fall and Decline
2014
Similarly as in case of trade marks, IGOs have their rises and falls depending on the intensity of their use, character of such usage, and the activity of interested persons. Also as with trade marks, rises and falls of IGOs are characterised in terms of the level of their recognition among consumers influencing the scope of their protection. For these reasons, IGOs may be protected insofar they are capable of fulfilling their function, i.e. to distinguish the geographical origin of goods and services in question. Only when a particular geographical designation fulfils that function of an IGO, it is possible to discuss its protection within any of the protection models of IGOs.
PUBLIC TRUST IN CHARITIES : EVIDENCES FROM FINLAND AND SWEDEN
2019
Master's thesis Innovative governance and public management ME523 - University of Agder 2019 Public sector across the globe is currently experiencing a decline in public trustand this issue has been widelydiscussed across the globe. While working as a fundraiser in summer 2018, the author discovered that charities are struggling to recruit and keep their regular donors. Donations from general people areone of the mainsources of charity funding. Individuals who donate to charities do not receive a direct benefit in exchange for their support to charities. Moreover, they don’t have all the necessary information, on which they can decide to donate. Trust is what facilitates the transactions be…

A quantitative analysis of stratospheric HCl, HNO3, and O3 in the tropopause region near the subtropical jet
2014
The effects of chemical two-way mixing on the Extratropical Transition Layer (ExTL) near the subtropical jet are investigated by stratospheric tracer-tracer correlations. To this end, in situ measurements were performed west of Africa (25-32 ◦ N) during the Transport and Composition of the Upper Troposphere Lower Stratosphere (UTLS)/Earth System Model Validation (TACTS/ESMVal) mission in August/September 2012. The Atmospheric chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer sampling HCl and HNO3 was for the first time deployed on the new German High Altitude and Long range research aircraft (HALO). Measurements of O3, CO, European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) analysis, and the tig…
Challenges in Information Systems Procurement in the Norwegian Public Sector
2011
Published version of a chapter in the book Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 6846, 404-417. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-22878-0_34 Public procurement of information systems (IS) and IS services provides several challenges to the stakeholders involved in the procurement processes. This paper reports initial results from a Delphi study, which involved 46 experienced procurement managers, chief information officers, and vendor representatives in the Norwegian public sector. The participants identified altogether 98 challenges related to IS procurement, divided further into 13 categories: requirements specification, change management, cooperation a…
The Relevance of Sexual Biographies in Individuals Convicted of Child Sexual Abuse Offenses for the Development of Pedosexual Interests and Sexual Re…
2020
In the literature concerning the etiology of pedosexual interests, the potential role of early sexual experiences in childhood and adolescence has been discussed. Several studies demonstrated a link between own sexually abusive experiences in childhood and sexual offending later in life which tends to be even stronger for pedosexual offenders. Furthermore, some findings indicate associations between other developmental factors and deviant sexual interests in adulthood. For the present study, sexual biographical data of N = 223 imprisoned men convicted of sexual offenses against children from Austria was analyzed to retrospectively examine whether own sexually abusive experiences and non-abu…
County-level socioeconomic and crime risk factors for substantiated child abuse and neglect.
2019
Rates of substantiated child abuse and neglect vary significantly across counties. Despite strong cross-sectional support for links between social-contextual characteristics and abuse and neglect, few longitudinal studies have tested relations between these risk factors and substantiated rates of abuse/neglect. The goal of this study was to identify county-level socioeconomic and crime factors associated with substantiated abuse/neglect rates over 13 years (2004-2016). Annual county-level data for Tennessee, obtained from the KIDS COUNT Data Center, included rates of substantiated child abuse and neglect, children's race and ethnicity, births to unmarried women, teen birth rate, children in…

Summary Background The UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are grounded in the global ambition of "leaving no one behind". Understanding today's gains and gaps for the health-related SDGs is essential for decision makers as they aim to improve the health of populations. As part of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2016 (GBD 2016), we measured 37 of the 50 health-related SDG indicators over the period 1990–2016 for 188 countries, and then on the basis of these past trends, we projected indicators to 2030. Methods We used standardised GBD 2016 methods to measure 37 health-related indicators from 1990 to 2016, an increase of four indicators since GBD 2015. W…
