Walking is a complex task requiring the interplay of neuromuscular, sensory, and cognitive functions. Owing to the age-related decline in cognitive and physical functions, walking may be compromised in older adults, for cognitive functions, especially poor performance in executive functions, is associated with slow walking speed. Highlights • Aerobic fitness level, but not physical activity, is related to white matter properties in the brain. • The relation between physical activity and working memory is moderated by fractional anisotropy (FA) of the corpus callosum. • The FA of the corpus callosum and superior corona radiata moderates the relation between aerobic fitness and working memory.
Diverse histories, common ground and a shared future:the education of career guidance and counselling professionals in the Nordic countries

The development of education programmes in career guidance and counseling (CGC) has followed different paths among the various Nordic countries. Ten CGC programmes in Denmark, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden were evaluated against the NICE curricular model. The results show that all NICE core competences are represented in the curricula. However, there is greater focus in some programmes on developing competences for individual career guidance, than on developing competences for working at organisational and societal levels. Tutkielma käsittelee nuorille suunnatun matalan kynnyksen ohjaus- ja neuvontapalvelu Ohjaamon asiakkaiden kokemaa osallisuutta ja toimijuutta omassa ohjausprosessissaan ja laajemmin palvelussa. Ohjaamoiden julkilausuttu tavoite on ehkäistä nuorten syrjäytymistä. Toiminnan ytimessä on asiakkai-den osallistaminen myös palvelun itsensä kehittämiseen. The introduction to this volume discusses the importance of situating career and career guidance in context. It makes a connection to wider research and writing that challenges the idea that career theory can be global and universal and argues that there is a need for attention to local context and culture.
