Profiles of Nature Exposure and Outdoor Activities Associated With Occupational Well-Being Among Employees.
2018
This research addresses the profiles of nature exposure and outdoor activities in nature among Finnish employees (N = 783). The profiles were formed on the bases of nature exposure at work and the frequency and type of outdoor activities in nature engaged in during leisure time. The profiles were investigated in relation to work engagement and burnout. The latent profile analysis identified a five-class solution as the best model: High exposure (8%), Versatile exposure (22%), Unilateral exposure (38%), Average exposure (13%), and Low exposure (19%). An Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was conducted for each well-being outcome in order to evaluate how the identified profiles related to occupa…
Vapaaehtoistyöllä toteutetun ulkoiluintervention vaikutus ikääntyneiden henkilöiden yksinäisyyden kokemiseen
2014
TIIVISTELMÄ Vapaaehtoistyöllä toteutetun ulkoiluintervention vaikutus ikääntyneiden henkilöiden yksinäisyyden kokemiseen Sillanmäki Ulpukka Pro gradu -tutkielma Gerontologia ja kansanterveys Jyväskylän yliopisto, liikuntatieteellinen tiedekunta, terveystieteiden laitos Kevät 2014, 46 sivua Yksinäisyyden kokeminen ikääntyneillä henkilöillä on yleistä. Koetulla yksinäisyydellä on todettu olevan monia terveyttä ja toimintakykyä heikentäviä vaikutuksia, jolloin koetun yksinäisyyden ennaltaehkäiseminen ja lievittäminen on tärkeää. Tämän pro gradu-tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tutkia fyysisen aktiivisuuden ja sosiaalisen vuorovaikutuksen yhdistävän ulkoiluintervention vaikutusta ikääntyneiden hen…
Walking, physical activity and life-space mobility among older people
2017
Autonomy in mobility is a central component of active ageing. Life-space mobility describes where, when, and how an individual reaches desired destinations. Walking, an important form of physical activity among older people, is a prerequisite for engaging in daily activities. This study explored the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships between physical activity and life-space mobility. The associations of walking with reasons for going outdoors in different life-space areas, living arrangements, and environmental barriers to mobility were also examined. Data from two larger studies were used: the Life-Space Mobility in Old Age (LISPE) accelerometer substudy (n=174, median age 79.7…
Pelaaja-agentit jalkapalloilun globalisoitumisen ilmentäjinä Suomessa
2012
Suomalainen jalkapalloilu on globalisoitunut vauhdilla ensimmäisten ulkomaalaisten pelaajien tultua pääsarjaan 1970–luvun lopulla. 2000–luvulla kiinnostus on siirtynyt afrikkalaisiin pelaajiin, joiden määrä Veikkausliigassa on noussut merkittävästi. Vuonna 2010 Veikkausliigan ulkomaalaisista peräti 37 % oli afrikkalaisia pelaajia. 90-luvulla Bosmanpäätöksen myötä lisääntynyt pelaajatarjon…
Synthesis of nanostructured protein–mineral-microcapsules by sonication
2022
We propose a simple and eco-friendly method for the formation of composite protein–mineral-microcapsules induced by ultrasound treatment. Protein- and nanoparticle-stabilized oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions loaded with different oils are prepared using high-intensity ultrasound. The formation of thin composite mineral proteinaceous shells is realized with various types of nanoparticles, which are pre-modified with Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) and subsequently characterized by EDX, TGA, zeta potential measurements and Raman spectroscopy. Cryo-SEM and EDX mapping visualizations show the homogeneous distribution of the densely packed nanoparticles in the capsule shell. In contrast to the results re…
Hydro-mechanical modelling of a natural slope affected by a multiple slip surface failure mechanism
2009
A coupled hydro-mechanical formulation is presented for the analysis of landslide motion during crisis episodes. The mathematical formulation is used to model a natural slope affected by a multiple slip surface failure mechanism, in which pore water pressure evolution was identified as the main cause for movement accelerations. An elasto-plastic constitutive model is adopted for the behaviour of slip surfaces. Material parameters are obtained by combining the available laboratory tests and the back analysis of some crisis episodes. After being calibrated and validated, the model is applied to improve the understanding of the physical processes involved and to predict the landslide behaviour…
An effective stress based shear strength criterion for unsaturated compacted double-porosity clays
2015
An effective stress based shear strength criterion is proposed taking into account the fundamental effects of microstructure characteristics on retention properties of compacted double-porosity clays and their overall coupled hydro-mechanical behaviour. Results of triaxial compression tests carried out on saturated and unsaturated samples of a compacted scaly clay show that points representative of failure conditions depict a unique failure envelope when the macropore degree of saturation is used in the definition of the effective stress and its evolution with the suction is taken into account. Furthermore, the proposed criterion is very effective to consider the most relevant aspects of su…
Relationships between Heavy Metal Concentrations in Greater Celandine (Chelidonium majus L.) Tissues and Soil in Urban Parks
2023
Anthropogenic ecological ecosystems create favourable conditions for the growth of the nitrophilous medicinal species Chelidonium majus in six urban parks in Southern Poland. This study focuses on the concentrations of trace elements in the soils, leaves, stems, and rhizomes of greater celandine. The soil samples were taken only in the humus horizon (A), which averaged approximately 15 cm in thickness under the clumps of Ch. majus. Regarding the reaction, the soil samples tested can be described as slightly acidic (5.6–6.8 in KCl) to alkaline (7.1–7.4 in H2O). Organic carbon content at all sites is high, ranging from 3.2% to 13.6%, while the highest total nitrogen (Nt) content is 0.664%. Th…
