Older Adults Learning Digital Skills Together: Peer Tutors’ Perspectives on Non-Formal Digital Support
2023
In later life, digital support is predominantly received outside of formal education from warm experts such as children, grandchildren, and friends. However, as not everyone can rely on this kind of informal help, many older adults are at risk of being unwillingly left without digital support and necessary digital skills. In this article, we examine non-formal digital support and peer tutoring as a way to promote digital and social inclusion through the acquisition of necessary digital skills. First, we ask: (a) What is peer tutoring, in the field of digital training, from the peer tutors’ point of view? Then, based on the first research question, we further ask (b) what are the key charact…
Sense of coherence and health among home-dwelling older people.
2010
Sense of coherence (SOC) is important for maintaining health. The aim of this study was to investigate if the SOC experience among home-dwelling physically active older people differs from that of hospital patients with the same age and sex. Data were collected with questionnaires and structured interviews containing Antonovsky’s SOC scale in an age- and sex-matched study group (n=160). Non-parametric statistical analyses were performed. No differences were found in SOC between home-dwelling individuals and patients. Ninety-five percent of the home-dwelling individuals perceived themselves as being in good health and 42.5% among the patients (p<0.001). SOC and disease were predictors fo…

Multiple Creativities Put to Work for Creative Ecologies in Teacher Professional Learning: A Vision and Practice of Everyday Creativity
2021
AbstractIn this chapter, we argue for a new vision for teacher professional learning based on the diverse creativities as practice which catalyzes educational change in whole-school contexts. We argue that it is possible (and preferable) to expand improvements to teacher education and professional development beyond neoliberal notions of “workplace readiness” and toward an environmental, ecological, sustainable education for lives worth living. This creative ecological approach considers the entire context and community of various stakeholders.Applying a case study approach, we analyze teachers’ published assignments in a blended in-service teacher education course entitled “Everyday Creati…
The influence of international ownership on the performance of microfinance institutions
2016
Master thesis Business Administration - University of Agder 2016 The microfinance industry is experiencing rapid growth and financing this growth is a legitimate concern. During the past decade, international commercial funding in the form of international equity and debt has played a remarkable role in this regard. Until now, microfinance research that focus on the performance implications of international funding of MFIs is inadequate even though microfinance literature is voluminous. Our study focuses on the presence of international shareholders in microfinance institutions. Using data from 148 Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) in 51 countries, we empirically determine MFI characteristic…

The formation of dominant voice in issue arenas
2011
Abstract The aim of the present study was to map out required changes to current stakeholder thinking in public relations (PR) research and practice for a better suited model for PR professionals. The concept of issue arenas (Luoma-aho & Vos 2009) was adopted for the future direction of stakeholder thinking. Further, a central aspect of PR management on issue arenas is the division of voice – or indirect power – of different players. It was suggested that gaining a dominant voice in an issue arena would facilitate the attainment of organizational goals. Meaning was considered cental in this process. This thesis, focused, on the formation of dominant voice in issue arenas. Two research quest…
The groundwater pollution of Korneuburg, Austria : its issue life-cycle in the public discourse and collaboration and confrontation strategies of act…
2015
This thesis is a case study about the groundwater contamination of Korneuburg, Austria. The company Kwizda was responsible for pesticides leaking into the groundwater. The contamination was kept quiet with the help of local authorities and would have never come to light if not for the diligent efforts of affected residents. Their collaboration with environmental activists and a journalist led to the uncovering of the incident, eventually leading to remediation measures and lawsuits. While public attention to the issue was high, the authorities approved a controversial remediation measure that would lead to further pollution. With a particular reference to environmental and social issues, th…
The Strategic Cognition View of Issue Salience and the Evolution of a Political Issue : Landis & Gyr, the Hungarian Uprising and East-West Trade, 195…
2017
Why do firms facing similar stakeholder issues respond quite differently? The recently introduced strategic cognition view of issue salience and firm responsiveness (hereinafter: issue salience model) seeks to tackle this core question of stakeholder theory. I extend the nascent theorizing with a historical case study in order to rethink the model’s firm-centric perspective. The firm under examination in this historical case study is the Swiss multinational Landis & Gyr (LG) during the Cold War period. Like many other Swiss exportoriented companies in the 1950s and early 1960s, LG was challenged by Swiss pressure groups, which were highly effective at putting an issue on the public agenda: …
