Structure and thermal properties of a chitosan coated polyethylene bilayer film

The thermal and the structural properties of chitosan coated polyethylene (PE) films were studied. The coating process did not significantly influence the thermal stability and the PE surface structure and/or composition of the polyolefin. Dehydration temperature of chitosan films reflected the strength of water/acetic acid/chitosan chains interactions. Glycerol, used as a plasticizer, formed new hydrophilic centres in the film matrix. Moreover it was better integrated in the CSEGLY than in CSAGLY network. Besides, the addition of a plasticizer in the chitosan films decreased the film degradation temperature. Effect of different matrices and nanofillers on the rheological behavior of polymer-clay nanocomposites

In this work, a comprehensive study of the rheological behavior under shear and isothermal and nonisothermal elongational flow of low density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) based nanocomposites was reported to evaluate their "filmability", that is, the ability of these material to be processed for film forming applications. The influence of two different kinds of organoclay - namely Cloisite 15A and Cloisite 30B - and their concentration was evaluated. Protection of high-density polyethylene-silicon composites from ultraviolet-visible photodegradation

[EN] The extent of the ultraviolet¿visible (UV¿vis) photoirradiation effect on high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and HDPE¿sili-con (Si) composites is reported in terms of the addition of Si microparticles at contents of 0.1, 1, and 5 wt %. A standard acceleratedUV-vis exposure was applied over 2750 h, corresponding to 22 months in Florida. Extensive investigation of nitrated phospholipids in connection with various biologically important processes requires reliable access to suitable material. A selective chemical synthesis introducing a defined nitrofatty acid at the sn-2 position of a 2-lyso sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylcholine was developed. AbstractThe synthesis of Lipoxin B4 analogues (LXB4) to gain access to stabilized inflammation-resolving compounds is an active field of research. Focusing on variation and stabilization of the conjugated E,Z,E,E C6–C13 tetraene moiety of natural LXB4, a methylene bridge introduced between C6 and C11 suppresses any Z/E isomerization of the C8–C9 olefin. Furthermore, rapid ω-oxidation (C20) should be avoided by replacing the C18–C20 segment by an aromatic moiety. Tandem cross enyne metathesis (CEYM)–intramolecular Diels–Alder reaction (IMDAR). An easy entry to linear bicyclic scaffolds

A new tandem cross enyne metathesis (CEYM)–intramolecular Diels–Alder reaction (IMDAR) has been carried out. It involves conjugated ketones, esters or amides bearing a remote olefin and aromatic alkynes as the starting materials. The overall process enables the preparation of a small family of linear bicyclic scaffolds in a very simple manner with moderate to good levels of diastereoselectivity. This methodology constitutes one of the few examples that employ olefins differently than ethylene in tandem CEYM–IMDAR protocols.

Photolysis of (E)- and (Z)-2-(1-ethyl-3-phenylpropenyl)phenol (1 and 2) under a variety of conditions produces a mixture of dihydrobenzopyrans 3 and 4, dihydrobenzofuran 5, cyclopropanes 6 and 7, and rearranged olefin 8. Acidic treatment of 1 and 2 gives a mixture of the six-membered ring products 3 and 4. Remarkable differences, associated with the nature of the precursor and the reaction conditions, are observed in the regiochemistry of cyclization and in the stereochemistry of the dihydrobenzopyrans (3/4 ratio). This points in favour of an H-bridged intermediate, rather than a fully zwitterionic species, as the direct precursor of the photocyclized products.
