Dynamics of dry matter partitioning in young ‘Nocellara del Belice’ olive trees

Dry matter partitioning of ‘Nocellara del Belice’ olive (Olea europaea L.) trees was assessed during one growing season. Four three-year-old potted trees from rooted cuttings trained to single-trunk free-canopy were destructively harvested at 30-day intervals during the growing season. The average dry matter increase was about 2 kg · year-1 per tree. Total plant dry weight increased linearly over the year, whereas root to shoot ratio followed a quadratic trend with its peak during winter. Dry matter of all canopy parts (trunk, branches, 1-year-old shoots, and leaves) increased linearly and leaves exhibited the fastest growth. Detecting crop water status in mature olive orchards using vegetation spectral measurements.

Full spectral measurements (350–2500 nm) at tree canopy and leaf levels and the corresponding leaf water potentials (LWP) were acquired in an olive grove of Sicily, at different hours of the day, during summer season 2011. The main objective of the work was to assess, on the basis of the experimental data-set, two different approaches to detect crop water status in terms of LWP. Geochemical monitoring of groundwaters (1998-2001) at Vesuvius volcano (Italy)

This work presents the results of hydrogeochemical studies carried out at Vesuvius during the period May 1998-December 2001, mostly focusing on compositional time variations observed during this time. Based on their chemistry, groundwater samples are distinguished into two groups, 1 and 2, representative of water circulation in the southern and northern sectors of the volcano, respectively. Waters from group 1 are typically more acidic, warmer, and more saline than those of group 2. They also have higher CO2 and CH4 contents, attributed to enhanced input of deep-rising volatiles and prolonged water-rock interactions. La popolazione blastomicetica di olive verdi da tavola, prodotte a partire da 4 diverse cultivar siciliane (Brandofino, Castriciana, Nocellara del Belice, Passulunara) e da una spagnola (Manzanilla), è stata monitorata durante l’intero processo di fermentazione. La tecnologia produttiva poteva definirsi di tipo semi-industriale, giacché il ruolo della microflora lattica era parzialmente sostituito dall’aggiunta di acido lattico e la fermentazione naturale avveniva in salamoia all’8% di NaCl.
