Purpose: Breast cancer is the most common cancer of Finnish women. Peer support could be a way to help breast cancer patients to deal with the disease but studies on its effectiveness have produced conflicting results. The chapter examines self-help groups in rural Tanzania as practices in which citizenship habits are formed. Self-help groups are referred as locally organized groups established to address the needs and challenges of the members. Äitiyteen kohdistuu erilaisia kulttuurisia odotuksia ja se on erityisesti lastensuojelutyössä läsnä oleva ilmiö. Lastensuojelutyössä tarkastellaan muun muassa lapsen kodin olosuhteita ja vanhemmuutta. Toisinaan lapsen kodin ulkopuolelle sijoittamisen katsotaan olevan lapsen edun mukaista. Tutkimuksen lähtökohtana on ajatus siitä, että lapsen sijaishuollossa oleminen vaikuttaa äitiyteen tai ainakin vanhemmuuden toteuttamiseen jollain tapaa. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are based on the Agenda 2030 according to which ‘no one is left behind’, highlighting the need for inclusive citizenship at all levels. This article examines self-help groups in rural Tanzania as potential arenas for inclusive citizenship, which is defined as bottom-up practices of membership, participation, and livelihood enhancement.
