Nonlinear optical properties of diaromatic stilbene, butadiene and thiophene derivatives
2021
Series of highly polar stilbene (1a–e), diphenylbutadiene (2a–c) and phenylethenylthiophene (3a–c) derivatives were prepared via Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons method with a view to produce new and efficient materials for second harmonic generation (SHG) in the solid-state. The single-crystal X-ray structures of compounds 1–3 reveal extensive polymorphism and a peculiar photodimerization of the 2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxy-4′-nitrostilbene derivative 1a to afford two polymorphs of tetra-aryl cyclobutane 4. The stilbene congeners 2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxy-4′-nitrostilbene (1a·non-centro), 5-bromo-2-hydroxy-3-nitro-4′-nitrostilbene (1b) and 4-dimethylamino-4′-nitrostilbene (1e), as well as 4′-fluoro-4′′-nitr…

Understanding moderating effects in increasing share-of-wallet and word-of-mouth : A case study of Lidl grocery retailer
2018
This study examines how five moderating variables (the length of the customer relationship, following a company in print media and on social media, remembering online advertisements, and the customer’s age) affect the relationships between perceived value and loyalty and satisfaction and loyalty in the grocery retailing sector. A series of hypotheses were developed and tested with a sample of 2,072 discount retailer customers in Finland. The results support all the direct effects hypotheses and show that perceived value and satisfaction both have a positive effect on loyalty, measured as a share of wallet and word of mouth and that the effect of perceived value tends to be stronger in the s…
Yritysblogien dialogiset ominaisuudet suomalaisissa mainos- ja viestintätoimistoissa
2015
Tässä tutkielmassa tutkittiin yritysblogien dialogisia ominaisuuksia. Aikaisimmissa tutkimuksissa on todettu, että yritysblogit soveltuvat yrityksen suhde- ja liiketoiminnan edistämiseen, niiden suosio on kasvanut ja haasteena on yritysblogien heikko dialoginen kapasiteetti. Miten suomalaiset PR-ammattilaiset hyödyntävät yritysblogien dialogista kapasiteettia? PR-ammattiryhmäksi valikoituivat MTL:n jäsenyrityksistä mainos- ja viestintätoimistot: toimistoja 20, tutkimusaika 1.4.–31.7.2015, 129 blogikirjoitusta. Teoreettisessa viitekehyksessä määriteltiin dialogiset ominaisuudet. Tutkimuksessa käytettiin laadullista ja määrällistä sisällönanalysia ja yritysblogien dialogisia ominaisuuksia tut…

Atomic layer deposition of AlN from AlCl3 using NH3 and Ar/NH3 plasma
2018
The atomic layer deposition (ALD) of AlN from AlCl3 was investigated using a thermal process with NH3 and a plasma-enhanced (PE)ALD process with Ar/NH3 plasma. The growth was limited in the thermal process by the low reactivity of NH3, and impractically long pulses were required to reach saturation. Despite the plasma activation, the growth per cycle in the PEALD process was lower than that in the thermal process (0.4 Å vs 0.7 Å). However, the plasma process resulted in a lower concentration of impurities in the films compared to the thermal process. Both the thermal and plasma processes yielded crystalline films; however, the degree of crystallinity was higher in the plasma process. The fi…
Comparison of mechanical properties and composition of magnetron sputter and plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition aluminum nitride films
2018
A comparative study of mechanical properties and elemental and structural composition was made for aluminum nitride thin films deposited with reactive magnetron sputtering and plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD). The sputtered films were deposited on Si (100), Mo (110), and Al (111) oriented substrates to study the effect of substrate texture on film properties. For the PEALD trimethylaluminum–ammonia films, the effects of process parameters, such as temperature, bias voltage, and plasma gas (ammonia versus N2/H2), on the AlN properties were studied. All the AlN films had a nominal thickness of 100 nm. Time-of-flight elastic recoil detection analysis showed the sputtered films t…
Evaluation of radiation stability of electron beam irradiated Nafion® and sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) membranes
2022
Proton exchange membranes (PEM), which have been commonly used in fuel cells have raised interest for the application in harsh environments involving ionizing radiation. Therefore, radiation stability and ability to sustain their functionality under the radiation environment are of great interest. Within this study, electron beam irradiation in dose range from 50 to 500kGy was used to evaluate the effects of radiation on the physico-chemical and mechanical properties of two types of PEM: commercial Nafion®117 and sulfonated poly(ether-ether-ketone) (SPEEK) with high degree of sulfonation (DS = 0.75±0.5). SPEEK membrane presented higher mechanical and thermal stability compared to that of Na…
Nanodevices by DNA based gold nanostructures
2017
In this thesis DNA based structures were utilized to create gold nanostructures for nanosensing and nanoelectronic applications. In the past, both of these fields have been dominated by the conventional lithography methods, e.g., electron beam lithography and UV-lithography, but more recently scaling down the components by these techniques has become increasingly more complex and costly. Especially in the micro- and nanoelectronics, the increase in the component density and thus computational power would require fabrication of sub-10-nm components, which is challenging for the top-down approaches. Aforementioned developments have led researchers to seek alternative methods to fabricate these…
