Indirect sinus lift without bone graft material: systematic review and meta-analysis
2014
A systematic literature review and a meta-analysis of indirect sinus lift without the use of bone graft material was performed. A PubMed search was made from January 2005 to January 2012 with keywords: “sinus lift” , “osteo-tome” , “graft” and “maxillary sinus elevation” . The inclusion criteria were: maxillary sinus lift technique with osteotomes with a minimum follow-up period of 5 months after surgery without bone graft material. 11 articles were included. The mean gain in residual crestal bone height after maxillary sinus lift without bone graft material was 3,43 mm ± 0,09 (2,5 mm – 4,4 mm). The survival rate ranged from 94% to 100%. Placement of implants with sinus lift without bone gr…
Los mamíferos del Mioceno Inferior de la Cuenca de Ribesalbes-Alcora (Castelló, España)
2017
Elderly woman in films. An evaluation to the filmic projects
2016
The role of p21Waf1/CIP1 as a Cip/Kip type cell-cycle regulator in oral squamous cell carcinoma (Review)
2013
Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) is biologically characterized by the accumulation of multiple genetic and molecular alterations that end up clinically characterized as a malignant neoplasm through a phenomenon known as multistep. The members of the Cip/Kip family, specifically p21 Waf 1/CIP1 , are responsible for cell cycle control, blocking the transition from phase G1 to phase S. We made a search of articles of peer-reviewed Journals in PubMed/ Medline, crossing the keywords. The goal of this paper is to determine the relationship between p21 Waf 1/ CIP1 expression and several clinical and pathological aspects of OSCC, their relationship with p53 and HPV, as well as genetic alteration…
Osseous oral hyaline ring granuloma mimicking a mandible tumor in a child with congenital agenesis of the corpus callosum
2017
Background Hyaline ring granuloma (HRG) of the oral cavity is an uncommon disorder considered to be a foreign-body reaction resulting from implantation of food vegetable particles. Microscopically, it is characterized by the presence of structures of hyaline rings in an inflamed fibrous tissue background, which contains multinucleated giant cells. Material and methods We present the case of a 4-year-old boy diagnosed with a mandible osseous HRG, which showed clinical and tomographic aspects suggestive of an aggressive bone tumor. Results The patient underwent surgical exploration and histopathologic analysis showed fragments composed predominantly of widespread dense connective tissue with …
Influence of bruxism on survival of porcelain laminate veneers
2013
Objectives: This study aims to determine whether bruxism and the use of occlusal splints affect the survival of porcelain laminate veneers in patients treated with this technique. Material and Methods: Restorations were made in 70 patients, including 30 patients with some type of parafunc - tional habit. A total of 323 veneers were placed, 170 in patients with bruxism activity, and the remaining 153 in patients without it. A clinical examination determined the presence or absence of ceramic failure (cracks, frac - tures and debonding) of the restorations; these incidents were analyzed for association with bruxism and the use of splints. Results: Analysis of the ceramic failures showed that …
Long-term outcomes of oral rehabilitation with dental implants in HIV-positive patients: A retrospective case series
2016
Background: The existing information on oral rehabilitations with dental implants in VIH-positive patients is scarce and of poor quality. Moreover, no long-term follow-up studies are available. Hence, the aims of this study were to describe the long-term survival and success rates of dental implants in a group of HIV-positive patients and to identify the most common postoperative complications, including peri-implant diseases. Material and Methods: A retrospective case series of HIV-positive subjects treated with dental implants at the School of Dentistry of the University of Barcelona (Spain) was studied. Several clinical parameters were registered, including CD4 cell count, viral load and…
Hospital dental practice in special patients
2013
Dental patients with special needs are people with different systemic diseases, multiple disorders or severe physical and/or mental disabilities. A Medline search was made, yielding a total of 29 articles that served as the basis for this study, which offers a brief description of the dental intervention protocols in medically compromised patients. Dental treatment in patients with special needs, whether presenting medical problems or disabilities, is sometimes complex. For this reason the hospital should be regarded as the ideal setting for the care of these individuals. Before starting any dental intervention, a correct patient evaluation is needed, based on a correct anamnesis, medical r…
Disinclusion of unerupted teeth by mean of self-ligating brackets: Effect of blood contamination on shear bond strength
2012
Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the effect of blood contamination on the shear bond strength and failure site of three different orthodontic self-ligating brackets. Study Design: 240 bovine permanent mandibular incisors were randomly divided into 12 groups of 20 specimens each. Orthodontic self-ligating brackets were tested under four different enamel surface conditions: a) dry, b) blood contamination before priming, c) blood contamination after priming, d) blood contamination before and after priming. Brackets were bonded to the teeth and subsequently tested using a Instron universal testing machine. Shear bond strength values and adhesive failure rate were recorded. Statis…
