Evidence for intruder states in111Rh

Levels in111Rh have been investigated via the γ -rays following the β−-decay of 2.1 s111Ru. The Ru activity was produced in the fission of249Cf and separated chemically from the fission product mixture. The emitted γ-rays were studied by γ singles and γ(t) coincidence measurements. Evidence for intruder states in111Rh has been obtained. Their properties are discussed and compared with those in the lighter Rh isotopes.

Abstract Polymerizable Langmuir—Blodgett (LB) multilayers of several diacetylenic amphiphiles were investigated on gas-permeable, polymeric supports. Macroscopically homogeneous multilayer films of hexacosa-10,12-diynoic acid and pentacosa-10,12-diyne phosphonate could be built up on polypropylene and polytetrafluoroethylene materials. As shown by scanning electron microscopy, the microscopic homogeneity of the built-up multilayers was mainly controlled by the surface structure of the support material, whereas the chemical nature of the support and photopolymerization of the layers did not affect the high order of the films. As the interface between land and sea, transitional areas are often negatively impacted by anthropic activities. This impact is the result of many processes, including direct input of pollutants which accumulate in both sediments and aquatic organisms. The aim of this paper is to identify trace metal (As, Cd, total Hg and Pb) contamination in the Acquatina pond (Apulia, Italy), using sediment and fish (A. boyeri, C. labrosus, D. annularis, D. dentex, D. sargus, D. vulgaris, E. encrasicholus, G. paganellus, L. ramada, M. surmuletus, S. salpa, S. solea) as descriptors. Beta-Decay Half-Lives and Neutron-Emission Probabilities of Very Neutron-Rich Y to Tc Isotopes

Neutron-rich {sub 39}Y to {sub 43}Tc isotopes have been produced by fission of uranium with a 50MeV H{sub 2}{sup +} beam. Beta-decay half-lives, delayed neutron-emission probabilities, and production yields have been measured and compared with theory. Beta decay of 4 new isotopes is reported, and the {beta}-delayed neutron-emission mode has been discovered for 12 isotopes of the elements niobium and technetium. The results compared to quasiparticle random phase approximation predictions indicate the increasing importance of fast {beta} transitions to high-lying states of nuclei with large neutron excess. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}

Trap-assisted studies of odd, neutron-rich isotopes from Tc to Pd

We review the present and future of trap-assisted structure studies of odd, neutron-rich Tc, Ru, Rh and Pd isotopes at the limits of present experimental techniques. These nuclei of refractory elements are produced in light-particle induced fission and filtered by their mass number with the IGISOL mass separator. Further mass separation with the JYFLTRAP Penning trap system provides a clean, monoisotopic beam perfectly suited for precise nuclear spectroscopy. Connecting the IGISOL and the JYFLTRAP facilities to the recently installed MCC30/15 cyclotron opens new prospects for post-trap spectroscopy of very exotic, neutron-rich nuclei. peerReviewed

A tipper full of skinned limbs : fiction and the Northern Ireland Troubles

This article discusses the potential of a fictional story, a novel, to challenge political narratives in a divided society. I will analyse three novels set during the ”Troubles” (1960s-1998) in Northern Ireland, looking at the ways in which each novel navigates the narrow space between Northern Irish unionism and nationalism, the two dominant narratives in Northern Ireland. I will read the novels politically, interpreting them as rhetorical narratives holding the power to challenge commonplace assumptions.
