Predatory journals enter biomedical databases through public funding

2020

Predatory publishing is an international, cross disciplinary threat to the integrity of the scientific system • A worrying number of articles published in predatory journals are indexed in biomedical databases such as PubMed, the free access biomedical database maintained by the National Library of Medicine • Public funding, under open access policies, seems to be the mechanism by which articles are displayed in PubMed. • Providing guidance to publicly funded authors on how to publish their work in legitimate open-access venues will likely stop the wasteful use of public money to cover the fees of predatory journals.

Entrepreneurship Training and Self-Employment among University Graduates

2012

In economies characterized by low labor demand and high rates of youth unemployment, entrepreneurship training has the potential to enable youth to gain skills and create their own jobs. This paper presents experimental evidence on a new entrepreneurship track that provides business training and personalized coaching to university students in Tunisia. Undergraduates in the final year of licence appliquee were given the opportunity to graduate with a business plan instead of following the standard curriculum. This paper relies on randomized assignment of the entrepreneurship track to identify impacts on labor market outcomes one year after graduation. The analysis finds that the entrepreneur…

2004

In the elderly, many alterations of both innate and clonotypic immunity have been described. Alterations to the immune system in the elderly are generally viewed as a deterioration of immunity, leading to the use of the term immunosenescence. However, although many immunological parameters are often notably reduced in the elderly, retained function of both innate and clonotypic immunity in the elderly is tightly correlated to health status. Recognising the important role of the immune system in ageing, over the last few years, journals oriented towards gerontology and geriatric sciences have increasingly published articles dealing with the immunology of ageing, but a specialised journal in …

The availability of raw data in substance abuse scientific journals

2018

[Objective]: The availability of research data sets is an important milestone since it can enhance the dynamics of research. This study aims to analyse the PubMed Central repository to determine the availability and type of raw data sets in Substance Abuse journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports.

Fermi-Dirac correlations in Lambda pairs in hadronic Z decays

2000

Two-particle correlations of Lambda Lambda and pairs have been studied in multihadronic Z decays recorded with the ALEPH detector at LEP in the years from 1992 to 1995. The correlations were measured as a function of the four-momentum difference Q of the pair. A depletion of events is observed in the region Q 2 GeV the fraction of pairs with spin one is consistent with the value of 0.75 expected for a statistical spin mixture, whilst for Q pairs, where no Fermi-Dirac correlations are expected, the spin one fraction is measured to be consistent with 0.75 over the entire analysed Q range.
