The role of information in a two-traders market
2014
In a very simple stock market, made by only two \emph{initially equivalent} traders, we discuss how the information can affect the performance of the traders. More in detail, we first consider how the portfolios of the traders evolve in time when the market is \emph{closed}. After that, we discuss two models in which an interaction with the outer world is allowed. We show that, in this case, the two traders behave differently, depending on \textbf{i)} the amount of information which they receive from outside; and \textbf{ii)}the quality of this information.
Optimizing the Use of an Integrated LMS: Hardware Evolution through Distributed Computing. Experience from the Universitat de València
2009
The advent of the Internet has opened a scope for research in new methods and tools that may facilitate the teaching and learning processes. This has, in turn, led to the development of learning platforms to support teaching and learning activities. Nowadays most universities provide their academic community with some form of a learning management system (LMS). To achieve the optimal use of such type of systems, they must integrate all their academic community and preexisting applications at its institutions. These complex objectives can be reached by using a robust architecture, preferably an open system, based on distributed computing. In this paper, we expose the Universitat de Valencia …

Enhancing Metastability by Dissipation and Driving in an Asymmetric Bistable Quantum System.
2018
The stabilizing effect of quantum fluctuations on the escape process and the relaxation dynamics from a quantum metastable state are investigated. Specifically, the quantum dynamics of a multilevel bistable system coupled to a bosonic Ohmic thermal bath in strong dissipation regime is analyzed. The study is performed by a non-perturbative method based on the real-time path integral approach of the Feynman-Vernon influence functional. We consider a strongly asymmetric double well potential with and without a monochromatic external driving, and with an out-of-equilibrium initial condition. In the absence of driving we observe a nonmonotonic behavior of the escape time from the metastable regi…
