Rank-order and morphological enhancement of image details with an optoelectronic processor.

2010

In all-optical processors, enhancement of image details is the result of high-pass filtering. We describe an optoelectronic processor in which detail enhancement results from the digitally calculated difference between an original input image and its low-pass filtered version. The low-pass filtering is realized through the rank-order median and the morphological opening and closing operations calculated by use of the optical convolver. It is shown that the normalized difference between the morphological white and black top hats enhances bright and dark image details analogously to the rank-order unsharp masking.

Pulse radiolysis and theoretical investigation on the initial mechanism of the e-beam polymerization of epoxy resins. The results obtained on (phenox…

2007

Abstract The radical cation of (phenoxymethyl)oxirane ( PGE ⋅ + ) is generated by pulse radiolysis in dichloromethane solution and by direct action of radiation on the title compound. In the pure system its UV–vis spectrum is characterized by two bands at 340 and 430 nm, such that the electronic structure corresponds to a dipole bearing the positive charge on the phenoxy side. At the same time, the phenoxy-oxirane bridge is weakened. Then, the radical cation fragments into a phenoxonium ion and an oxyranylmethyl radical ( k PGE - fragm = 1.16 × 10 7 s - 1 ) . The latter immediately rearranges to an allyloxyl radical by ring opening. It is then conceived that the action of onium salts, as ra…

Don't skip intro. Sigle da non perdere

2019

In recent years, TV series have gained a central role among the classic TV genres. They have become more and more elaborate, strategically edited, catching both the critics and the audiences’ eyes. Many «surrounding» texts have contributed (and contribute) in making them popular and, among these texts, the opening credits play a special part. At the beginning of television history, opening sequences were brief and marginal texts aimed at informing the viewer about the cast and the contents he was going to watch. Nowadays they are refined products, designed to present, seduce, involve and facilitate the viewer’s entry into the story. In this paper, we will focus on these brief yet rich kind …

Soglie XXL. Sigle dei programmi televisivi sul dimagrimento

2020

TV show opening credits can be considered as frames which delimit the borders of a filmic text. They aim at advising and attracting the audience by highlighting specific aspects of the program. In doing that, opening credits as well as other forms of intros activate specific styles of relationship between the instances of production and reception of texts. They can be considered acts of enunciation through which the enunciator establishes its own discourse and gives instructions to the enunciatee about the text. In this paper we will analyze these so called “paratexts”, in particular by focusing on the intro sequences of some weight loss TV programs from the Italian television schedule. The…

The taint of torture and the brazilian legal system

2019

In Brazil, the practice of torture intertwines deeply with its own history. The literature on the subject has had a greater intensification on its registers during the Dictatorial Regime (1964 to 1985). In spite of the Brazilian Constitution of 1988, Brazil only makes efforts to investigate the crimes of torture of this period to comply with the provisions of the United Nations in 2011. Within this scenario, the NationalTruth Commission (Law 12.528, of November 2011) was created with the purpose of clarifying the facts and circumstances of cases concerning human rights violations, as well as the Law on Access to Information (Law 12.527 of November 2011), which have regulated the constitutio…

Investigating activity of masticatory muscles in patients with hypermobile temporomandibular joints by using EMG

2014

Background: Temporomandibular joint hypermobility (TMJH) can manifest higher range of motions in mandible. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the activity of masticatory muscle of TMJs in healthy individuals and patients with mild, moderate and severe TMJH. Material and Methods: In this clinical study, 69 patients (between the ages of 22 to 42) with manifestation of TMJH were included. The patients were divided into three groups based on their maximum mouth opening (MMO): (light) with MMO of 50-55 mm; (moderate) with MMO between 55 to 65 mm; and (severe) with MMO >65 mm. Also, 20 healthy people with profiled tomography in the last 6 months were invited as control group (he…

Crack dynamics and crack surfaces in elastic beam lattices

1998

The dynamics of propagating cracks is analyzed in elastic two-dimensional lattices of beams. At early times, inertia effects and static stress enhancement combine so that the crack-tip velocity is found to behave as t1/7. At late times a minimal crack-tip model reproduces the numerical simulation results. With no disorder and for fast loading, a “mirror-mist-mirror” crack-surface pattern emerges. Introduction of disorder leads, however, to the formation of the “mirror-mist-hackle”–type interface typical in many experimental situations. Peer reviewed

Core–shell-type multiarm star polyethylenimine-block-poly(ɛ-caprolactone): Synthesis and guest encapsulation potential

2006

Novel multiarm star copolymers with poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL) as the arms and hyperbranched polyethylenimine (HPEI) as the core have been successfully prepared by the tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate catalyzed ring-opening polymerization of e-caprolactone (CL) with HPEI used directly as a macroinitiator. Not only primary but also secondary amine groups of HPEI participate in initiating the ring-opening polymerization of CL with almost 100% initiation efficiency. The average degree of polymerization of the PCL arms can be controlled by the feed ratio of the monomers to the initiating sites. Because of the polarity difference of the PCL arms and HPEI core, the obtained multiarm star polymers display…
