The choice of a solid waste management system using the Electre II decision-aid method

1995

A multicriteria decision-aid method, Electre II, was applied to the real choice process of a solid waste management system in the Uusimaa region, Finland. The criteria used were chosen by a supervision group. The weights of the criteria were defined by the managers of environmental and technical affairs of each municipality in Uusimaa, Finland. The use of the Electre II method leads us to recommend centralized incineration as the best municipal solid waste management system for the planning region. However, the second best alternative, intermediate RDF combustion with intermediate landfilling was finally chosen by the municipalities.

ELECTRE III and IV Decision Aids in an Environmental Problem

1997

This paper gives a description and analysis of the use of ELECTRE III and IV decision aids in the context of choosing a solid waste management system in two different real applications in Finland. Both methods fit this context well in general, since the problem involves many criteria and many ‘decision makers’. The available data are imprecise, which also favours the use of outranking methods. In addition to the real applications, we also study the choice behaviour offered for decision makers in connection with these methods by looking at some test results obtained from randomly generated problems. In general, the results of ELECTRE III and IV do not differ substantially from those from the…

Photoinduced effects on the magnetic properties of the (Fe0.2Cr0.8)1.5[Cr(CN)6] Prussian blue analogue

2019

International audience; One of the most attractive characteristics of some Prussian blue derivatives is the sensitivity of their magnetic properties to the irradiation with light. In this work photoinduced effects in the (Fe0.2Cr0.8)1.5[Cr(CN)6]·15H2O PBA have been studied by means of X-ray-based spectroscopies and magnetometry. It is found that the photosensitivity of this compound is mostly centred on the Fe cations: the exposure to green light induces a transfer of electrons from them to the Cr that provokes a reversal of the previously existing linkage isomerization and increases the elastic strain caused by the misfit of the unit cells of the Fe–NC–Cr and Cr–NC–Cr sublattices. The gree…

The New Generation of Resonant Laser Ionization Mass Spectrometers: Becoming Competitive for Selective Atomic Ultra-Trace Determination?

2002

A critical assessment of the present status of resonant laser ionization mass spectrometry (RIMS) as a specialized analytical technique for the field of atomic ultra-trace determination is attempted and a comparison with established mass spectrometric methods is made. Within the last years RIMS on atomic species has rapidly developed towards becoming a versatile experimental technique, in particular addressing those applications that require high selectivity in respect of isobaric or isotopic interferences. This progress is mainly based on the advent of easy-to-handle tunable solid-state laser systems for both pulsed and continuous operation, which are used in combination with modern compac…

New sunphotometer for network operation.

1983

A handheld sunphotometer has been developed and is described. It operates for 9 wavelengths in the visible and near infrared. The sensitivity range is rather broad, so it can be used in turbid as well as clear atmospheres. The operation is simple, and a digital readout helps prevent operator biases. The instrument is sun powered and suitable for network operations. Determination of the atmospheric turbidity due to aerosol and the column content of O3, NO2, H2O is possible.

Strengthened splitting methods for computing resolvents

2021

In this work, we develop a systematic framework for computing the resolvent of the sum of two or more monotone operators which only activates each operator in the sum individually. The key tool in the development of this framework is the notion of the “strengthening” of a set-valued operator, which can be viewed as a type of regularisation that preserves computational tractability. After deriving a number of iterative schemes through this framework, we demonstrate their application to best approximation problems, image denoising and elliptic PDEs. FJAA and RC were partially supported by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain and the European Regional Development Fund …

Old or new occupants of energy rehabilitated buildings. Two different approaches for hierarchizing group of buildings

2017

Abstract Public Administrations are frequently entitled to intervene in building stocks with energy rehabilitation actions. Unfortunately, the monetary budget at their disposal is generally limited and, consequently, a prioritization criterion is needed to optimize its allocation. The classification of the building energy performance is increasingly used by Public Administrations for this purpose. Here we argue that a proper prioritization criterion should depend upon the potential subjects to which the rehabilitated buildings are given back. If the energy rehabilitation is conducted on buildings that will be assigned to new dwellers, it would be preferable to use the energy class – which i…

Unary Probabilistic and Quantum Automata on Promise Problems

2015

We continue the systematic investigation of probabilistic and quantum finite automata (PFAs and QFAs) on promise problems by focusing on unary languages. We show that bounded-error QFAs are more powerful than PFAs. But, in contrary to the binary problems, the computational powers of Las-Vegas QFAs and bounded-error PFAs are equivalent to deterministic finite automata (DFAs). Lastly, we present a new family of unary promise problems with two parameters such that when fixing one parameter QFAs can be exponentially more succinct than PFAs and when fixing the other parameter PFAs can be exponentially more succinct than DFAs.

Applications of the vehicle routing problem with trailers and transshipments

2013

Abstract The vehicle routing problem with trailers and transshipments (VRPTT) is a recent and challenging extension of the well-known vehicle routing problem. The VRPTT constitutes an archetypal representative of the class of vehicle routing problems with multiple synchronization constraints (VRPMSs). In addition to the usual task covering constraints, VRPMSs require further synchronization between vehicles, concerning spatial, temporal, and load aspects. VRPMSs possess considerable practical relevance, but limited coverage in the scientific literature. The purpose of the present paper is to describe how several important types of VRPMSs, such as multi-echelon location-routing problems and …
