A Smart Village as an Opportunity for Development of Borderland Areas of the Czech Republic and Poland

2018

In the conditions of sustainable development, a smart village is supposed to provide an answer to social, economic and environmental challenges which rural areas of Europe are faced with in the 21st century. The aim of the study is to identify and analyze the social developmental potential of villages located in Opole Region. On the basis of questionnaire- based survey research carried out in 2018 among 100 managers of trade agricultural holdings based in Opole Province, the authors undertake to answer the question: Can the existing social capital be the driving force of smart transformation of rural areas in this region? In the study, networks of cooperation which are being formed in the b…

Memory‐type control charts for censored reliability data

2023

Control charts are commonly used to monitor a process to detect undesirable changes. The main goal of this work is to propose exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) and cumulative sum (CUSUM) control charts to track a process by utilizing type-I censored generalized exponential (GE) distributed data. In particular, the censored data are replaced with the conditional expected value (CEV). A comparison between CUSUM and CUSUM ignoring unobserved covariates (CUSUM-IUC) charts is also a part of this study. The GE distribution is considered due to its application in reliability analysis. The performance of the charts is evaluated by using the average run length along with the standard devi…

FLUMO: FLexible Underwater MOdem

2019

The last years have seen a growing interest in underwater acoustic communications because of its applications in marine research, oceanography, marine commercial operations, the offshore oil industry and defense. High-speed communication in the underwater acoustic channel has been challenging because of limited bandwidth, extended multipath, refractive properties of the medium, severe fading, rapid time variation and large Doppler shifts. In this paper, we show an implementation of a flexible Software-Defined Acoustic (SDA) underwater modem, where modulation parameters are completely tunable to optimize performance. In particular, we develop the system architecture following two key ideas. …

www.Personal_Asset_Allocation.

2004

Today consumers demand delivery of financial services anytime and anywhere, and their needs and desires are evolving rapidly. The World Wide Web provides a rich channel for distributing customized services to a range of clients. An Internet-based system developed by Prometeia S.r.l. for Italian banks—both traditional and e-banks—supports consumers and financial advisors in planning personal finances. The system provides advice on allocating personal assets to fund consumers' needs, such as paying for a house, children's education, retirement, or other projects. State-of-the-art models of financial engineering—based on scenario optimization—develop plans that are consistent with clients' go…

The average state complexity of rational operations on finite languages is linear

2010

Considering the uniform distribution on sets of m non-empty words whose sum of lengths is n, we establish that the average state complexities of the rational operations are asymptotically linear.
