Managing Economic Solution for a global sustainable Development
2010
We live in an imperfect world. The poverty, the disease, the lack of education, the environmental destruction, the energy crisis, the overpopulation, the increasing consumption of resources, the deforestation and desertification, the biodiversity loss, the pollution, the emissions of greenhouse gases, the climate change, water supply, human violence etc. are all current issues. What can be done to provide adequate solutions to these problems? How to respond to these issues?
Logiques d'acteurs et intercommunalité en Franche-Comté
2007
The creation of the "Etablissements publics de coopération intercommunale" and their gradual substitution to the former structures - known as "syndicats" - offer a much more satisfactory framework for defining and implementing local policies dealing with infrastructures and territorial development. As the "Schémas départementaux d'orientation de l'intercommunalité" have now been completed, it has become possible to assess this extensive evolution in Franche-Comté, using various examples which reflect the differences from one district - "département" - to the next.
Impact of organisational practices and language on an international business cooperation : the case of a German-Slovakian corporation
2015
In the course of the EU integration process, Slovakia became a target of choice for German investors. The percentage of German foreign direct investment has increased sharply since 1995. A growing number of German small to medium sized enterprises discover Slovakia as profitable location for outsourcing and offshoring. However, little is known about German-Slovakian corporations and expatriate management in Slovakia. The aim of the study is to get an understanding of the impact of organisational culture and language on one specific case of a German-Slovakian business cooperation. During the study, the research question is divided into three sub-questions: How is the organisational culture c…
Strategic thinking and accounting: potentials and pitfalls from a managerial perspective
2019
This study explores the strategic thinking of managers from an accounting perspective. By building on interview data from managers working with strategic roles in various organizations, an understanding is offered of the experienced potentials and pitfalls of accounting in strategic thinking. The results are elaborated into a framework presenting the dual nature of accounting in strategic contexts. This study suggests that the benefits and pitfalls of accounting for strategic thinking constitute a paradoxical duality, which cannot be fully solved, but must be addressed by practising managers. The observed role of accounting in managers’ strategic thinking also offers implications for manage…

China's rhetoric and soft power towards the Portuguese-speaking countries : the case of Angola
2014
The thesis analyses China’s foreign policy towards the Portuguese-speaking countries, particularly the case of Angola. The People’s Republic of China has been putting great emphasis on the relations with other developing countries. The eight Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste constitute a group with a population of around 250 million people, a vast wealth of natural resources and potential for gaining economic and political importance in the near future. The way China frames its rhetorical communication and establishes relationships must be understood to provide a perspective on its foreign po…
Economical running strategy for East African distance runners
2013
The superior success of East-African endurance runners has stimulated a large amount of interest in exploring valid reasons for their performance, especially for neuromuscular mechanics. This review provides a brief overview of classic neuromuscular interaction during running; and, thereafter, describes a specific neuromuscular interaction alternative to the classic stretch-shortening cycle concept for enhancing the running economy of East-African distance runners.
Hypes and the birth of new sustainable market categories – a socio-cultural perspective on the emergence of the meat substitute category in Finland
2022
Hypes can be a significant contributor in the mainstreaming of sustainable products. Former research on hypes has been supplier oriented, and thus little is known of their effect on new market formation. Our paper contributes to this research gap by examining the establishment of the ‘meat substitute’ category in Finland using press articles, retailer interviews and consumer panel data. We show how the emergence and legitimation of the meat substitute category depended heavily on the hype arising around a single product, called Pulled Oats (PO). This hype was anchored in its association with trendy and socio-culturally relevant values and practices. We further discover that the hype had pos…
