Tax Competition with Intermunicipal Cooperation

2020

We study local tax competition when municipalities can voluntarily cooperate with neighboring jurisdictions. In France, the strongest form of cooperation among municipalities occurs by forming an “establishment for inter-municipal cooperation” (EIMC). We study how interjurisdictional policy interdependence differs between competing municipalities within the same EIMC and competing municipalities outside of the cooperative unit. We apply the estimation strategy of Kelejian and Piras (2014) to resolve the endogeneity of the decision to cooperate with other municipalities. We find that strategic interactions among peer members of the same EIMC are less intense than strategic interactions with …

Evaluation of the time required to perform three retreatment techniques with dental microscope and ultrasonic activation for removing filling materia…

2018

Background When endodontic treatment fails, retreatment consists of the complete removal of the root canal filling material for thorough cleaning and reobturation. Various techniques are available for the filling removal procedure, which present varying degrees of efficacy, and take a varying length of time to perform. The aim of this study was to compare the time required to carry out reciprocating, rotary, and manual techniques with dental microscope and ultrasonic activation for removing filling material from root canals. Material and Methods Ninety-nine extracted single-rooted teeth with straight and oval-shaped canals were selected. The samples were instrumented with ProTaper Gold Syst…

Microsurgical Management of Intracranial Aneurysms After Flow Diversion Failure

2019

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) occurring after an intracranial aneurysm rupture has an incidence of 10.5 per 100,000 person-years and accounts for about 5% of strokes. The resulting outcome depends on several factors including the severity of the initial hemorrhage, rebleeding, perioperative medical management, and the timing and technical success for aneurysm treatment. The overall mortality rates from 32%−67% with 10%–20% of patients with long-term dependence due to brain damage. It is well known that 12% of patients die before achieving medical treatment and 25% die within the first 24 hours. Again, 40%–60% mortality rate occurs within 30 days. Among the surviving patients, about one thir…

Endoscopic Microsurgery of Rectal Tumors

1987

Seventy-five patients with sessile adenomas or early carcinomas of the rectum or rectosigmoid were operated on with the new technique "transanal endoscopic microsurgery" Employing a newly developed complex endoscopic operating system, complete removal of sessile adenomas can be accomplished up to a distance of 25 cm from the anal verge, accurately and non-invasively. Complications occurred in three cases, with no resulting mortality. In the follow-up period we discovered only one adenomatous recurrence that required operative treatment. The superior accuracy of preparation, a short average stay in hospital, and low recurrence and complication rates are the advantages of this transanal endos…

Response of periodontium to mineral trioxide aggregate and Biodentine: a pilot histological study on humans.

2018

Background The aim of this study was to investigate for the first time the histological response of human periodontium to mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Biodentine. Methods Six patients scheduled for implant full-arch rehabilitation were randomly assigned to one of the two test groups: MTA or Biodentine treatment. For each patient, two teeth scheduled for strategic extraction were randomly assigned either to the test or to the control treatment. A lateral perforation was drilled on the root and either repaired with MTA/Biodentine or filled with gutta-percha(control). Three months later, the teeth were extracted along with the coronal third of the alveolar bone and a portion of gingiva…

Shear bond strengths of composite resin and giomer to mineral trioxide aggregate at different time intervals

2017

Background The efficacy of the bond between the restorative materials and the pulp capping materials has an important role in the success of vital pulp therapy. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of composite resin and giomer to MTA at different time intervals after mixing of MTA. Material and methods Ninety cylindrical MTA samples were prepared and assigned to two groups (n=45) based on the restorative materials used (composite resin or giomer). Each group was subdivided into 3 subgroups (n=15) based on the evaluation intervals (immediately, 2.45 hours and 3 days after mixing MTA). After the bonding procedures, the shear bond strengths of the samples w…

Effect of the TiO2 nanoparticles on the selected physical properties of mineral trioxide aggregate

2017

Background Some of the efforts to improve the properties of Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) include incorporation of some nanoparticles such as Titanium dioxide (TiO2). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of TiO2 nanoparticles on the setting time, working time, push-out bond strength and compressive strength of MTA. Material and methods The physical properties to be evaluated were determined using the ISO 6786:2001 and 9917 specifications. Fifteen samples of each material (MTA or MTA with 1% weight ratio of TiO2 Nanoparticles) were prepared for any evaluated physical property. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and T-test. Statistical significance was set at P Res…

Evaluation of shear bond strength of a composite resin to white mineral trioxide aggregate with three different bonding systemsa-An in vitro analysis

2016

Background Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is a biomaterial that has been investigated for endodontic applications. With the increased use of MTA in pulp capping, pulpotomy, perforation repair, apexification and obturation, the material that would be placed over MTA as a final restoration is an important matter. As composite resins are one of the most widely used final restorative materials, this study was conducted to evaluate the shear bond strength of a composite resin to white mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA) using three different bonding systems namely the two-step etch and rinse adhesive, the self-etching primer and the All-in-one system. Material and Methods Forty five specimens of…

The Discoloration effect of White Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (WMTA), Calcium Enriched Mixture (CEM), and Portland Cement (PC) on Human Teeth

2017

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the discoloration induced by CEM cement, Portland cement (PC) and MTA mixed with propylene glycol (MTA-PG) in comparison to White MTA. Material and methods Ninety extracted premolar and canine teeth were resected 2 mm below the CEJ. The coronal part of crown was prepared with peeso reamer and Gates-Glidden drills, and the specimens were randomly divided into 4 experimental (n=20) and one control (n=10) groups. The tooth crowns in experimental groups 1 to 4 were filled with White MTA, PC, CEM cement and MTA-PG, respectively; and in group 5, the teeth were kept empty. After incubation, digital photographs of teeth were acquired at 4 time points…

Avoiding tunnel collisions between fibular collateral ligament and ACL posterolateral bundle reconstruction

2010

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the risk of tunnel collisions of the fibular collateral ligament (FCL) and posterolateral bundle anterior cruciate ligament (PLB-ACL) tunnels during a combined FCL and double-dundle (DB) ACL reconstruction. METHODS: Thirty-six 4th-generation synthetic femurs (Sawbones, Pacific Research Laboratories, Vashon, WA) were utilized, and two different femur sizes were used. A FCL tunnel and a PLB-ACL tunnel were reamed on each femur. The tunnels of synthetic specimens that did not have a collision were filled with an epoxy resin augmented with BaSO(4) and radiographic evaluation, and Multidetector CT exams of the specimens were performed. RESULTS: …
