2018

Background Present study was conducted with the aim of evaluating antimicrobial efficacy of silver (AgNP) and gold nanoparticles (AuNP) with and without Nd: YAG laser (L) irradiation against experimentally inoculated Enterococcus faecalis in infected human root dentin. Material and Methods 120 extracted single rooted human teeth were prepared and inoculated with E. faecalis for 24 hrs. The teeth were then randomly divided into 4 experimental group: AgNPs group: irrigation for 3minutes with 50 μl of 100 ppm, the AuNPs group: irrigation with 50 μl of 100 ppm, the AgNPs & Nd: YAG lasers group: irrigation with 50 μl of 100 ppm + irradiation with 1.5W laser for 60 seconds, the AuNPs & Nd: YAG la…

Effectiveness of different disinfection techniques of the root canal in the elimination of a multi-species biofilm.

2019

Background The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of different root canal disinfection techniques in the elimination of a multi-species biofilm from inside the root canal. Material and methods Fifty mandibular first premolars were used in the present study, standardized to 11mm of root length, and instrumented with a reciprocation system Reciproc, (VDW GmbH, Munich, Germany) to a #50. Longitudinally sectioned halves of the roots were obtained and washed with NaOCl 4%, EDTA 17% and 5% sodium thiosulfate, and sterilized by autoclaving for 15 minutes at 121°C. A multi-species biofilm broth was developed with three strains of bacteria under laboratory conditions: Enterococcu…

Evaluation of antibacterial efficacy of Chitosan, Chlorhexidine, Propolis and Sodium hypochlorite on Enterococcus faecalis biofilm : an in vitro study

2017

Background Long term successful root canal treatment requires effective debridement and disinfection of root canal system. Persistent periradicular lesions are usually associated with Enterococccus faecalis. Prompt research for natural alternatives for irrigation is mainly due to the constant increase in antibiotic resistant strains and side effects caused by synthetic drugs. Sodium hypochlorite; the gold standard for irrigation has many disadvantages. Therefore, the present study was aimed to explore newer irrigants probably be as more effective and at the same time would be less irritating to the tissues than NaOCl. Material and methods Ninety extracted human mandibular premolars were bio…

In Vitro Evaluation of the Accuracy of the Root Zx in the Presence of Naocl 2.5% and Chlorhexidine 0.2%

2018

Background Establishing the working length at the apical constriction is considered ideal for root canal therapy. Because of the limitations of radiography and complicacy of the apex of the root, electronic measurement of canal length has become valuable for endodontic treatment. This study was designed to evaluation of the accuracy of the Root zx electronic apex locator in the presence of NaOCl 2.5% and chlorhexidine 0.2%. Material and Methods Thirty extracted human premolars with complete root formation were enrolled. The actual length (AL) was assessed visually (under stereo microscope) and teeth mounted in the saline model. The electronic length (EL) measurements were recorded in the pr…

Evaluation of multivalency as an organization principle for the efficient synthesis of doubly and triply threaded amide rotaxanes

2014

Mono-, di- and trivalent pseudorotaxanes with tetralactam macrocycle hosts and axles containing diamide binding stations as the guests have been synthesised. Their threading behaviour was analyzed in detail by NMR experiments and isothermal titration calorimetry. An X-ray crystal structure of the monovalent pseudorotaxane confirms the binding motif. Double mutant cycle analysis provides the effective molarities and insight into the chelate cooperativity of multivalent binding. While the second binding event in a trivalent pseudorotaxane exhibits a slightly positive cooperativity, the third binding is nearly non-cooperative. Nevertheless, the enhanced binding affinities resulting from the mu…

ECAR: an Energy/Channel Aware Routing Protocol For Cooperative Wireless Sensor Networks

2011

International audience; The proliferation of low power networks like Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) rose up new challenges. Power conservation and channel quality become the most important parameters. Obviously, hop count based routing protocols are no more adapted to such networks having power limitations and channel problems. Several alternatives were suggested to cope with these constraints. In MAC layer for example, cooperative protocols were designed to enhance the channel use: the neighbor nodes help the source to retransmit its packets. However, if the path proposed by the routing protocol contains poor channels, the cooperative communications will not save all the packets. Therefore…

RBCR: a Relay-Based Cooperative Routing Protocol for Cooperative Wireless Sensor Network

2011

International audience; In wireless sensor networks several constraints decrease communications performances. The main objective of this paper is to present a multi-objective routing algorithm RBCR that computes routing path based on the energy consumption and channel qualities. Additionally, the channel qualities are evaluated based on the presence of relay nodes. Compared to AODV and AODV associated to a cooperative MAC protocol, RBCR provides better performances.

Delaying surgery for patients with a previous SARS-CoV-2 infection

2020

With at least 28 elective million operations delayed during the first three months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of patients who will require surgery after a previous SARS-CoV-2 infection is likely to increase rapidly1. Operating on patients with an active perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection is now known to carry a very high pulmonary complication and mortality rate2. Urgent information is needed to guide whether postponing surgery in patients with a previous SARS-CoV-2 infection leads to a clinical benefit, and the optimal length of delay.

Combined interleukin 6 and soluble interleukin 6 receptor accelerates murine liver regeneration.

2000

Abstract Background & Aims: Liver regeneration after loss of hepatic tissue leads to hepatocyte and nonparenchymal cell proliferation and rapid restoration of liver parenchyma. Interleukin (IL)-6 is a key inducer of transcription factors involved in liver regeneration. Whenever IL-6 activates target cells, it binds to a specific IL-6 receptor (IL-6R). The IL-6/IL-6R complex then associates with the signal transducer gp130, leading to activation of intracellular signaling. Methods: We have recently constructed the designer cytokine Hyper-IL-6 consisting of soluble IL-6R covalently linked to IL-6, which directly stimulates gp130 even in the absence of membrane-bound IL-6R. We compared the inf…
