Chirurgie der kindlichen Nebenniere. Operationstaktik, intra- und perioperative Überwachung
1988
Surgical and non-surgical conditions of the adrenal cortex and medulla are presented. Besides general principles of operative treatment (e.g. surgical approach, safe operative technique, bilateral exploration) specific aspects associated with this procedure in childhood are discussed. The perioperative management and pharmacotherapeutical preparation (e.g. hormonal substitution) are emphasized.
Strategie des chirurgischen Vorgehens beim hilären Cholangiokarzinom
2006
Surgery is the decisive life-prolonging treatment in patients with hilar cholangiocarcinoma. Surgery is mainly based on empiric data. Since patients without surgery have only about 6 months to survive, to achieve a high resection rate is crucial for these patients. During diagnostic workup, percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography results in the most reliable assessment of longitudinal tumor growth. The extent of the tumor is frequently overestimated leading to the consequence of excluding the patients from surgery. En-bloc resection of the tumor and the adjacent liver should be the preferred surgical approach. So far, surgical radicality (right trisegmentectomy, extended lymphadenectomy a…
Retrograde recanalization of an in-stent ostial chronically occluded right coronary artery
2010
We describe a case of a chronic proximal in-stent CTO extending up to the ostium of a right coronary artery where successful achievement of guidewire passage through the CTO was performed with a retrograde approach. Guidewire trapping into the right guiding catheter was performed thereafter and procedure was completed by retrograde balloon crossing and antegrade stenting. © 2009 Elsevier Ireland Ltd.
Choice of the operative approach in two cardiosurgical patients assisted by preoperative computed tomography: Case Report
1988
The perioperative course of two patients is exemplified to demonstrate the significance of the preoperative thoracic computed tomography for the selection of a proper surgical approach.
Surgical disaster following hernia mesh infection and erroneous treatment strategy: A case report
2020
Highlights • Hernia mesh infection is easier to prevent than to cure. • A late infected hernia mesh explantation is more challenging than an early one. • Hernia mesh fragmentation following partial explantation burdens its complete removal. • An incorrect surgical strategy could catalyze a chain reaction of complications.
The Effect of Postoperative Complications After Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy on Long-term Survival: An International Multicenter Cohort Study
2021
Item does not contain fulltext BACKGROUND: Esophagectomy is a technically challenging procedure, associated with significant morbidity. The introduction of minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) has reduced postoperative morbidity. OBJECTIVE: Although the short-term effect on complications is increasingly being recognized, the impact on long-term survival remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the association between postoperative complications following MIE and long-term survival. METHODS: Data were collected from the EsoBenchmark Collaborative composed by 13 high-volume, expert centers routinely performing MIE. Patients operated between June 1, 2011 and May 31, 2016 were included…
Beyond Magnamosis: A Method to Test Sutureless Esophageal Anastomotic Devices in Living Swine by Creating an Esophageal Bypass Loop for Natural Oral …
2019
Abstract Introduction: Thoracoscopic esophageal atresia repair has become increasingly popular, but is still limited to a few expert centers and has some challenges and shortcomings. One of them ha...
Imaging of Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt Complications: Comparison of Whole Body Low-Dose Computed Tomography and Radiographic Shunt Series.
2016
OBJECTIVE To determine diagnostic value and radiation exposure of low-dose computed tomography (LD-CT) compared to radiographic shunt series (SS) for the detection of ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt complications. METHODS Fourteen VP shunts were implanted in 7 swine cadavers. Mechanical complications were induced in 50% of VP shunts. Low-dose CT (80 kVp, 10 mAs, Pitch = 1.5) and SS were acquired. Dose area product (DAP) and effective doses for SS and LD-CT were collected. Scoring of diagnostic confidence and blinded readings of SS and CT data were performed. RESULTS The sensitivity of LD-CT was high (0.97; 95% confidence interval, 0.91-1.00) with excellent interobserver agreement (κ = 0.88)…
OneShot-M: A New Device for Close Laparoscopy Pneumoperitoneum
2018
Introduction. The induction of pneumoperitoneum is the first and most critical phase of laparoscopy, due to the significant risk of serious vascular and visceral complications. The closed technique for the creation of pneumoperitoneum could lead to several surgical complications. The present study aimed to overcome the complications associated with the insertion of Veress needle, improving its use, and facilitating the rapid creation of pneumoperitoneum. Methods. Thirty large white female pigs were enrolled in our study. A common plunger was modified in order to allow the passage of a 15-cm long Veress needle. This method was applied to 26 laparoscopic procedures (26 pigs) of several speci…
Static Crow’s Feet Treated with Voltaic Arc Dermabrasion (Atmospheric Plasma): Post-Operative Pain Assessment by Thermal Infrared Imaging
2021
Background: In the literature, several strategies have been described for the treatment of unaesthetic marks on the face resulting from the aging processes. The atmospheric plasma procedure is a non-invasive, inexpensive technique proposed for the rejuvenation of facial tissues. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of voltaic arc dermabrasion (VAD) for the treatment of static crow’s feet of the periorbital area. Methods: The crow’s feet of 135 patients (127 female and 8 male) were treated using the VAD technique. The perioperative skin temperature measurement was assessed using an Infrared Temperature sensor. The pain was measured using the Visual Analogic Score (VAS) at 1 …
