"Milloin sinä otat itseäsi niskasta kiinni?" : opettajien kokemuksia alisuoriutujista
2003
Marita Kontoniemi on tutkinut opettajien kokemuksia koulujen alisuoriutujista. Heitä on arvioitu olevan jopa viidennes oppilaista, poikia valtaosa.
Rats with elevated genetic risk for metabolic syndrome exhibit cognitive deficiencies when young
2021
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a known risk factor for cognitive decline. Using polygenic rat models selectively bred for high and low intrinsic exercise capacity and simultaneously modelling as low and high innate risk factor for MetS respectively, we have previously shown that adult animals with lower exercise capacity/higher MetS risk perform poorly in tasks requiring flexible cognition. However, it is not known whether these deficits in cognition are present already at young age. Also, it is unclear whether the high risk genome is related also to lower-level cognition, such as sensory gating measured as prepulse inhibition. In this study, young and adult (5-8 weeks and ∼9 months) rats sel…

The role of parents' and teachers' child-related competence beliefs in the development of students' self-concept of ability
2017
Individuals’ perceptions about their abilities, that is, self-concepts of abilities, are crucial determinants of academic achievement and education-related choices. The aims of this research were to examine the role of parents’ and teachers’ beliefs about children’s abilities in students’ self-concept of ability in the domains of literacy and mathematics, and whether the role of parents and teachers is different among boys and girls, and among low- and high-performing students. These questions were examined using three different data sets: the LIGHT study, the Jyväskylä Entrance into Primary School (JEPS) study and the STAIRWAY study. In all three studies, the participants were Finnish. In …
Liikunta – ihmelääke oppimiseen?
2022
Fyysisen aktiivisuuden sanotaan tehoavan lähes jokaiseen vaivaan, edistävän aivoterveyttä ja auttavan oppimaan. Liikunnallisuuden merkitys oppimisessa on kuitenkin epäselvä ja osin kiistanalainenkin. nonPeerReviewed
The construction of supervision and physiotherapy expertise : a qualitative study of physiotherapy students' learning sessions in clinical education
2008
Clinical education is asserted to be an important period in professional education, being an environment where deep conceptual understanding together with practical experience can develop. The supervisional interaction between clinical educators and students in clinical education is regarded as the strongest element in developing students’ expertise, and in forming professional identity. This study examined the natural learning sessions in physiotherapy students’ clinical education. The purpose was to analyse what kinds of meanings related to supervision, physiotherapy practice, client, and students’ learning experiences were constructed in the learning sessions, and also, how these meaning…
Smart Educational Process Based on Personal Learning Capabilities
2017
Personalized learning is increasingly gaining popularity, especially with the development of information technology and modern educational resources for learning. Each person is individual and has different knowledge background, different kind of memory, different learning speed. Teacher can adapt learning course, learning instructions or learning material according to the majority of learners in class, but that means that learning process is not adapted to the personality of each individual learner. That is why it is important to have smart educational process based on personal learning capabilities. This paper presents a literature survey on different learning systems which detects learni…
