The potential of temporal analysis: Combining log data and lag sequential analysis to investigate temporal differences between scaffolded and non-sca…
2020
This paper contributes to the ongoing discussion about analysing the temporal aspects of learning processes in the educational technology research field. Our main aim was to advance methods for analysing temporal aspects of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) processes by introducing the temporal lag sequential analysis (TLSA) technique and by combining TLSA with temporal log data analysis (TLDA). Our secondary aim was to illustrate the potential of these two analysis techniques to reveal the differences between the face-to-face technology-enhanced collaborative inquiry-based learning (CIBL) processes of three different conditions (non-scaffolded, writing scaffolded and script scaffolded gro…

Projektiopiskelu ja -oppiminen ammattikorkeakoulussa
2001
Mallin avulla projektiop…
Innovatiivisen oppimisyhteisön profiili : ammattikorkeakoulujen tekniikan ja liikenteen koulutusalan näkökulmasta tarkasteltuna
2001
In Finland, polytechnics were formed during the 1990s by merging educational institutes of college level and higher vocational level. Currently, over 100 000 undergraduate students study in polytechnics. The main responsibilities of polytechnics are in education and developing working life. The agreed aim of the polytechnics is to instruct and operate in ways that are more practice-oriented those of universities. The basic idea underlying the framework of the present study is to examine the factors leading to success from a perspective of innovations in the educational field of technology and transport. The characteristics of a learning community are examined from the perspective of an indi…

Skill learning during an asynchronous music e-learning module
2023
Learning musical skills is often associated with face-to-face teaching. Few studies on musical skill learning through asynchronous e-learning have been conducted; however, the demand for e-learning has increased due to multiform learning and individual education paths, unrestricted by time and place. This demand is the basis of this research. The focus of this study is Finnish classroom teacher students’ skill learning, learning processes, and learning experiences, while studying music independently through e-learning. The research method is an intensive case study with six students. Their learning diaries were analysed using a data-driven content analysis. Background factors were musical i…
Learner at the heart of curriculum : Theoretical analysis of core curriculum in Finland
2021
The curriculum is seen as a key steering document for teaching and learning. In Finland, its latest reform from 2014 highlights the importance of pupil’s learning rather than teaching. This article describes the learner-centered approach of the Finnish National Core Curriculum for Basic Education. The theoretical frame of reference for the study is the points of focus in the curriculum’s conception of learning and the definition of learner-centered approach based on them. The curriculum is examined from the perspective of learner-centered approach in the learning process. The research is a qualitative content analysis, which resulted in definitions of learner-centered approach and a descrip…
