Forest management optimization across spatial scales to reconcile economic and conservation objectives

Conflicts between biodiversity conservation and resource production can be mitigated by multi-objective management planning. Optimizing management for multiple objectives over larger land areas likely entails trading off the practicability of the process against the goodness of the solution. Multiple-criteria cash-management policies with particular liquidity terms

Abstract Eliciting policies for cash management systems with multiple assets is by no means straightforward. Both the particular relationship between alternative assets and time delays from control decisions to availability of cash introduce additional difficulties. Here we propose a cash management model to derive short-term finance policies when considering multiple assets with different expected returns and particular liquidity terms for each alternative asset. We present the results of ab initio 3‐21G∗ geometry optimizations and valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) band structure calculations aimed at determining the evolution of the geometric and electronic (ionization potential, electron affinities, and band gaps) properties of all‐trans poly(dimethylsilane), poly(diethylsilane), poly(di‐n‐propylsilane), and poly(di‐n‐butylsilane) when increasing the size of the alkyl group. In this paper, the structure of the highest level of a hierarchical control architecture for micro-grids is proposed. Such structure includes two sub-levels: the Energy Management System, EMS, and the tertiary regulation. Multi Sources Water Supply System Optimal Control: A Case Study

The optimal operation of a multi quality network was analysed applying Linear Programming methods. The peculiar service condition of the industrial city of Gela (Italy) was investigated. The network is supplied both from waters derived from a desalination plant and other natural sources. The method aimed to minimise energy cost and find the optimal operation control, while satisfying demand and quality constraints, specifically with regard to water temperature. The method proved to be effective in the selection of the optimal management strategy after the definition of a specific water quality target. (C) 2014 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
