Charm-quark mass from weighted finite energy QCD sum rules

2010

The running charm-quark mass in the scheme is determined from weighted finite energy QCD sum rules involving the vector current correlator. Only the short distance expansion of this correlator is used, together with integration kernels (weights) involving positive powers of s, the squared energy. The optimal kernels are found to be a simple pinched kernel and polynomials of the Legendre type. The former kernel reduces potential duality violations near the real axis in the complex s plane, and the latter allows us to extend the analysis to energy regions beyond the end point of the data. These kernels, together with the high energy expansion of the correlator, weigh the experimental and theo…

An optimized time screening algorithm for ROSAT PSPC and HRI observations

1998

We have developed a model-independent time screening optimization algorithm to cope with significant contamination spikes in the ROSAT PSPC/HRI bacground light-curves. The rejection criteria are based on the maximization of faint sources signal-to-noise ratio. The algorithm tuning parameters have been optimized through performing a wide set of runs on both simulated and real data. We have verified that the application of our selection criteria to the case of long exposure PSPC observations yields an increase of the number of faint sources ( SNR ) of up to 100% with a rejection of up to the 8% of the exposure time. At the same time, we obtain an average signal-to-noise ratio gain of 3% for t…

Light-by-light forward scattering sum rules for charmonium states

2017

We apply three forward light-by-light scattering sum rules to charmonium states. We show that these sum rules imply a cancellation between charmonium bound state contributions, which are mostly known from the $\gamma \gamma$ decay widths of these states, and continuum contributions above $D \bar D$ threshold, for which we provide a duality estimate. We also show that two of these sum rules allow to predict the yet unmeasured $\gamma^\ast \gamma$ coupling of the $\chi_{c1}(1P)$ state, which can be tested at present high-luminosity $e^+ e^-$ colliders.

Towards a combined analysis of inclusive/exclusive electroproduction

2019

In view of the major advances achieved by the CLAS experiments in studying the N* electroexcitation amplitudes, as well as further extension of these studies in the experiments with CLAS12, we present an approach for the evaluation of the resonant contributions to inclusive electron scattering off protons. For the first time, the resonant contributions are determined from the experimental results on N* electrocouplings available from the data analyses of exclusive meson electroproduction off protons. This is a useful benchmark for future endeavours on understanding the transition region between low and high-energy regions, strongly related to tests on quark-hadron duality.

Unitarity, analyticity and duality constraints in η and π photoproduction

2019

We report an update of the isobar model EtaMAID. A new approach is proposed to avoid double counting in the overlap region of Regge and resonances. Dispersion relation is applied on top of the isobar model, and both models describe the data equally well. Application of these ideas to pion photoproduction is discussed.

Second-Order Phase Transition Induced by Deterministic Fluctuations in Aperiodic Eight-State Potts Models

1999

We investigate the influence of aperiodic modulations of the exchange interactions between nearest-neighbour rows on the phase transition of the two-dimensional eight-state Potts model. The systems are studied numerically through intensive Monte Carlo simulations using the Swendsen-Wang cluster algorithm for different aperiodic sequences. The transition point is located through duality relations, and the critical behaviour is investigated using FSS techniques at criticality. While the pure system exhibits a first-order transition, we show that the deterministic fluctuations resulting from the aperiodic coupling distribution are liable to modify drastically the physical properties in the nei…

High selective H-plane TE dual mode cavity filter design by using nonresonating nodes

2013

The design of H-plane TE dual mode cavity filters using models containing nonresonating nodes is presented. From the models a coupling matrix is derived and decomposed into submatrices, each representing a subcircuit. The optimization and cascading of subcircuits represents a good starting point for the global optimization. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 56:161–166, 2014

Generalized conditions for genuine multipartite continuous-variable entanglement

2015

We derive a hierarchy of continuous-variable multipartite entanglement conditions in terms of second-order moments of position and momentum operators that generalizes existing criteria. Each condition corresponds to a convex optimization problem which, given the covariance matrix of the state, can be numerically solved in a straightforward way. The conditions are independent of partial transposition and thus are also able to detect bound entangled states. Our approach can be used to obtain an analytical condition for genuine multipartite entanglement. We demonstrate that even a special case of our conditions can detect entanglement very efficiently. Using multi-objective optimization it is …

Domain-wall excitations in the two-dimensional Ising spin glass

2018

The Ising spin glass in two dimensions exhibits rich behavior with subtle differences in the scaling for different coupling distributions. We use recently developed mappings to graph-theoretic problems together with highly efficient implementations of combinatorial optimization algorithms to determine exact ground states for systems on square lattices with up to $10\,000\times 10\,000$ spins. While these mappings only work for planar graphs, for example for systems with periodic boundary conditions in at most one direction, we suggest here an iterative windowing technique that allows one to determine ground states for fully periodic samples up to sizes similar to those for the open-periodic…
