Characterization of T–cell subclasses and NK–cells in lysosomal disorders by immuno–electron microscopy

Previous studies have shown that B and T lymphocytes are affected in lysosomal disorders. The aim of this study was to investigate the involvement of subclasses of T lymphocytes and natural killer cells in lysosomal diseases. CD4+, CD8+, and CD56+ cells were immunomagnetically separated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells in 10 patients with various lysosomal diseases--including one patient each with infantile, late infantile, and juvenile neuronal ceroid-lipfuscinoses, two patients with mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) type I and four patients with MPS type III, and one patient with mucolipidosis type II; all lymphocytes were studied by light and electron microscopy. Embedded neural network system for microorganisms growth analysis

This study presents autonomous system for microorganisms’ growth analysis in laboratory environment. As shown in previous research, laser speckle analysis allows detecting submicron changes of substrate with growing bacteria. By using neural networks for speckle analysis, it is possible to develop autonomous system, that can evaluate microorganisms’ growth by using cheap optics and electronics elements. Plant sterol oxides in functional beverages: Influence of matrix and storage

Three plant sterol (PS)-enriched beverages, milk based fruit juice (MFJPS), fruit juice (FJPS) and milk beverage (MPS), were stored at 4, 24, or 37 °C and analysed at regular time intervals of 2 months until 6 months. PS stability was analysed from the production of phytosterol oxidation products (POPs). The β-sitosterol oxides (7α/7β-hydroxy, β/α-epoxy, triol, and 7-keto) and campesterol oxides (β/α-epoxy, and 7-keto) were detected in all beverages and at all storage times and temperatures. It is known that at the event scale, evaporation losses of rainfall intercepted by canopy are a few millimeters, which is often not much in comparison to other stocks in the water balance. Nevertheless, at yearly scale, the number of times that the canopy is filled by rainfall and then depleted can be so large that the interception flux may become an important fraction of rainfall. Effect of high-pressure processing on carotenoids profile, colour, microbial and enzymatic stability of cloudy carrot juice

Abstract The objective of this work was to assess the impact of high-pressure processing (HPP) on the carotenoid profile, colour as well as the microbial and enzymatic stability of cloudy carrot juice. The predominant carotenoids in the fresh juices were by far the provitamin A carotenoids β-carotene and α-carotene. Others were ζ-carotene, phytofluene, phytoene and lutein. HPP at 300 MPa in three cycles caused the highest carotenoids degradation (41%) whereas the lowest degradation (26%) was achieved at 600 MPa.
