Towards single snapshot multispectral skin assessment

2012

Skin assessment technology based on comparative analysis of single-pixel RGB signal values at poly-chromatic illumination has been proposed. Multi-spectral imaging information from a single snapshot RGB image data set with the inter-channel crosstalk correction can be extracted this way. Proof-of-concept evaluations and measurement results are presented and discussed. Potential of bi-chromatic illumination for skin hemoglobin mapping during arterial occlusion test has been demonstrated.

Efficiency analysis of burst transmissions with block ACK in contention-based 802.11e WLANs

2005

The channel utilization efficiency of the standard 802.11 networks is severely compromised when high data transmission rates are employed, since physical layer headers and control frames are transmitted at low rate, thus wasting more channel time, proportionally. The extensions defined in the emerging 802.11e for quality-of-service (QoS) provisioning include some new mechanisms developed in order to improve the efficiency. Those include data transmission bursting (referred to as TXOP operation) and acknowledgment aggregation (referred to as block ACK). These two features allow it to offer new data transmission services, in which the data delivery and acknowledgment unit is not a single fram…

CoCoDat: a database system for organizing and selecting quantitative data on single neurons and neuronal microcircuitry.

2004

We present a novel database system for organizing and selecting quantitative experimental data on single neurons and neuronal microcircuitry that has proven useful for reference-keeping, experimental planning and computational modelling. Building on our previous experience with large neuroscientific databases, the system takes into account the diversity and method-dependence of single cell and microcircuitry data and provides tools for entering and retrieving published data without a priori interpretation or summarizing. Data representation is based on the framework suggested by biophysical theory and enables flexible combinations of data on membrane conductances, ionic and synaptic current…

Real-Time Power Flow Monitoring and Control System for Microgrids Integration in Islanded Scenarios

2019

This article presents an enhanced system for real-time power flow monitoring and control (PFMC) for microgrids integration in medium-voltage (MV) distribution networks. The developed solution includes both system architecture and the monitoring and control algorithms, and it has low implementation and installation costs. It is based on the use of hardware and software solutions previously proposed by the authors, i.e., a distributed measurement, a control and communication architecture, and a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software, which have been enhanced and integrated for the considered application. The SCADA implements a load flow (LF) algorithm for real-time power fl…

Numerical experiments with a parallel fast direct elliptic solver on Cray T3E

1997

A parallel fast direct O(N log N) solver is shortly described for linear systems with separable block tridiagonal matrices. A good parallel scalability of the proposed method is demonstrated on a Cray T3E parallel computer using MPI in communication. Also, the sequential performance is compared with the well-known BLKTRI-implementation of the generalized. cyclic reduction method using a single processor of Cray T3E.

Research on Vocabulary Sizes and Codebook Universality

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2014/697245 Open Access Codebook is an effective image representation method. By clustering in local image descriptors, a codebook is shown to be a distinctive image feature and widely applied in object classification. In almost all existing works on codebooks, the building of the visual vocabulary follows a basic routine, that is, extracting local image descriptors and clustering with a user-designated number of clusters. The problem with this routine lies in that building a codebook for each single dataset is not efficient. In order to deal with th…

Cooling and slowing of trapped antiprotons below 100 meV

1989

Electron cooling of trapped antiprotons allows their storage at energies 10 million times lower than is available in any antiproton storage ring. More than 60 000 antiprotons with energies from 0 to 3000 eV are stored in an ion trap from a single pulse of 5.9-MeV antiprotons from LEAR. Trapped antiprotons maintain their initial energy distribution over a storage lifetime exceeding 50 h unless allowed to collide with a cold buffer gas of trapped electrons, where- upon they cool dramatically to 1 eV in tens of seconds. The cooled antiprotons can be stacked into a harmonic potential well suited for long-term storage and precision measurements.

Dynamics and inertia of skyrmionic spin structures

2015

Understanding the motion of magnetic skyrmions is essential if they are to be used as information carriers in devices. It is now shown that topological confinement endows the skyrmions with an unexpectedly large mass, which plays a key role in their dynamics.

Valence band photoemission from thin iron films - A comparison of experimental and theoretical results

1998

Abstract In this contribution, we report on photoemission data from thin iron films on W(110) that have been carried out by means of spin-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy as well as Magnetic Circular Dichroism in valence band photoemission at the storage ring BESSY. These techniques give complementary information on the electronic and magnetic properties, such as exchange and spin–orbit splitting. We compare our experimental data to new photoemission calculations, which have been obtained in the framework of a fully relativistic one-step theory for ferromagnetic materials.
