On the Multifractal Character of the Lorenz Attractor

A detailed analysis of the Lorenz attractor in connection with generalized dimensions is presented in this work. Different methods have been employed to estimate these dimensions. Two of them are of standard type. A new method, based on the minimal spanning tree of the point distribution, is extensively tested in this work. It turns out that the Lorenz attractor is very appropriate for being analyzed through this technique, which produces a very clean estimate of the extrema scaling indices α min and α max . The different methods give qualitatively the same result: The Lorenz attractor has a multifractal character

Direct sequencing of human gut virome fractions obtained by flow cytometry

The sequence assembly of the human gut virome encounters several difficulties. A high proportion of human and bacterial matches is detected in purified viral samples. Viral DNA extraction results in a low DNA concentration, which does not reach the minimal limit required for sequencing library preparation. Therefore, the viromes are usually enriched by whole genome amplification, which is, however, prone to the development of chimeras and amplification bias. Latvijas izglītības sistēmas reforma ir izvirzījusi mērķi ieviest izmaiņas mācību procesā, novēršot sadrumstalotību un īpaši centrējot mācību procesu uz skolēnu vajadzībām, tādējādi vienlaikus veicinot caurviju prasmju apguvi, kuras ir svarīgi apgūt ikkatram skolēnam, lai nākotnē kļūtu par veiksmīgu 21. gadsimta sabiedrības pārstāvi. Šī pētījuma uzdevums ir izpētīt Valdorfa pedagoģijas stratēģijas, kuras izmanto spāņu valodas, kā svešvalodas, apguvē iesācēju līmenī un noskaidrot vai šīs stratēģijas papildina kompetenču izglītības pieeju mācību procesā. El umbral de escorrentía (P0) constituye uno de los parámetros clave en el estudio de la respuesta hidrológica de una cuenca. Resulta fundamental para el estudio de episodios y hace referencia a las pérdidas de precipitación, que tienen lugar en el sistema fluvial, desde el inicio del mismo hasta que se produce escorrentía. Uno de los métodos más usado para la estimación de este umbral es el desarrollado por el US Soil Conservation Service –SCS- (1972). Este método utiliza, entre otros, valores de pendiente, vegetación, usos del suelo y características hidrológicas del suelo.
