CORRUPTION IN FOOTBALL: MECHANISMS, ACTORS AND DRIVERS

2016

Master thesis Business Administration - University of Agder 2016 Corruption has existed since the beginning of time, and the first documented case of corruption related to sport took place 388 years BC. Several previous studies and research conclude that corruption appears in sport, and that it is a major problem. However, there are relatively few studies emphasising the main actors, mechanisms and drivers and that seek to find feasible solutions on how to prevent and decrease corruption in football. This thesis will use a comparative case study analysis of six cases in order to investigate the main actors, mechanisms and drivers. In the theoretical part, a special focus will be set on New …

Offentlig-Privat Samarbeid: Transaksjonskostnader i Anbudskonkurransen og Insentiver for Deltakelse

2016

Masteroppgave økonomi og administrasjon BE501 - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Kristiansand municipality decided to procure Justvik school through public-private partnership (PPP). The idea was to utilize private sector´s efficiency, management and expertise to design, build, finance and operate a public school through a long-term contractual arrangement. The model is debated as the desired efficiency gains are not proved to exceed the costs of the model. Previous research indicate that there is significant use of resources associated with PPP tendering. This paper examines the transaction costs in tendering for a PPP project. The research provides no basis for comparison with other procurement…

Social media as public sphere : an exploratory study of online political communication in Norway

2013

Doctoral dissertation, Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, University of Agder, Kristiansand 2013 This thesis presents an exploratory study of the use of social media in the Norwegian public sector, and contributes to the understanding of how social media can be applied to improve deliberation. The study is situated within the eParticipation research field. The motivation for the study is the reported challenges facing democracy, in the form of lower voter turnout, decline in political party membership, and a general lessening of interest for public issues and deliberation. Lost in translation? : European integration and lanuage diversity

2006

English is constantly moving forward and elucidates its role as lingua franca in the European Union. At the same time the Union has 20 official languages and promotes around 150 regional or minority languages under its official motto United in diversity; expressing the view that each member state should promote its national language and identity simultaneously as their citizens are to feel like Europeans. This can be looked upon as a contradiction in terms because diversity can juxtapose unity although in this paper we conclude the opposite by investigating the relationship between language, identity and the process of European integration. Taking as a point of departure the fact that langu…

The Norwegian central administration ten years after accession

2005

This study demonstrates that the European Commission contribute to weaken hierarchical decision-making processes, and ultimately politico-administrative control and oversight, within the Norwegian central administration. This article studies how the Norwegian central administrative apparatus is penetrated by the European Commission through ten years of “associated EU membership” through the EEA agreement. The study outlines two complementary theoretical approaches to account for actual decision-making processes within domestic central administrations: one ‘administrative integration approach’ claiming that different EU institutions have profound and differentiated impact on domestic hierarc…

Political dynamics of the parallel administration of the European Commission

2003

ABSTRACT This chapter studies political dynamics at the micro-level of the European Commission and poses the following question: Does the European Commission manage to transform the loyalties and identities of Commission officials? Studying the mix of national and supranational loyalties amongst Commission officials is important in order to assess the political dynamics of the core executive of the European Union. Moreover, the parallel administration of the European Commission is an important laboratory for studying the political dynamics of system integration across the EU/nation-state interface. This study applies an institutional middle-range approach to make conditional assessments on …

2013
