Energy dependence of CP-violation reach for monochromatic neutrino beam
2008
The ultimate goal for future neutrino facilities is the determination of CP violation in neutrino oscillations. Besides $| U(e3) | \ne 0$, this will require precision experiments with a very intense neutrino source and energy control. With this objective in mind, the creation of monochromatic neutrino beams from the electron capture decay of boosted ions by the SPS of CERN has been proposed. We discuss the capabilities of such a facility as a function of the energy of the boost and the baseline for the detector. We compare the physics potential for two different configurations: I) $\gamma=90$ and $\gamma=195$ (maximum achievable at present SPS) to Frejus; II) $\gamma=195$ and $\gamma=440$ (…
A4-based tri-bimaximal mixing within inverse and linear seesaw schemes
2009
We consider tri-bimaximal lepton mixing within low-scale seesaw schemes where light neutrino masses arise from TeV scale physics, potentially accessible at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Two examples are considered, based on the A4 flavor symmetry realized within the inverse or the linear seesaw mechanisms. Both are highly predictive so that in both the light neutrino sector effectively depends only on three mass parameters and one Majorana phase, with no CP violation in neutrino oscillations. We find that the linear seesaw leads to a lower bound for neutrinoless double beta decay while the inverse seesaw does not. The models also lead to potentially sizeable decay rates for lepton flavor…
A non-resonant dark-side solution to the solar neutrino problem
2001
We re-analyse spin-flavour precession solutions to the solar neutrino problem in the light of the recent SNO CC result as well as the 1258--day Super-Kamiokande data and the upper limit on solar anti-neutrinos. In a self-consistent magneto-hydrodynamics approach the resulting scheme has only 3 effective parameters: $\Delta m^2$, $\mu B_\perp$ and the neutrino mixing angle $\theta$. We show how a rates-only analysis for fixed $\mu B_\perp$ slightly favours spin-flavour precession (SFP) solutions over oscillations (OSC). In addition to the resonant solution (RSFP for short), there is a new non-resonant solution (NRSFP) in the ``dark-side''. Both RSFP and NRSFP lead to flat recoil energy spect…
Introduction to Neutrino Physiscs
2018
Neutrinos are, currently, the most unknown particles in the SM, therefore, the physics related to them, involve many fields and there are various independent experiments dedicated to measure their properties, such as their masses or their oscillation parameters.
Solar neutrino oscillation parameters and the broken R parity majoron
1989
Matter-enhanced neutrino-oscillation parameters can be probed in a variety of conventional experiments in supergravity models where the small neutrino mass arises from spontaneous R-parity violation. A combined analysis of astrophysical and laboratory limits tends to exclude regions of oscillation parameters where the high-energy neutrinos are adiabatically converted. This suggests the possibility of a large reduction in the pp and /sup 7/Be neutrino flux even for a mildly reduced /sup 8/B neutrino flux, thus stressing the importance of gallium experiments.
Genuine and Matter-induced Components of the CPV Asymmetry for Neutrino Oscillations
2019
These results represent the solution for the historical problem of the contamination by matter effects on the CPV Asymmetry for neutrino oscillations. Vacuum is CPT-symmetric and matter is T-symmetric, the goal is accomplished by using this guiding principle. Independent of the theoretical framework for the dynamics of the active neutrino flavors, we prove the Disentanglement Theorem A(CP)=A(CP, T)+A(CP, CPT) for the experimental CPV Asymmetry, with A(CP, T) genuine T-odd and A(CP, CPT) fake CPT-odd. For the effective Hamiltonian written as the sum of free mass propagation plus the matter potential for electron-neutrinos, the two components have definite parities under the baseline L, the m…
Updates to the Dualized Standard Model on Fermion Masses and Mixings
2003
The Dualized Standard Model has scored a number of successes in explaining the fermion mass hierarchy and mixing pattern. This note contains updates to those results including (a) an improved treatment of neutrino oscillation free from previous assumptions on neutrino masses, and hence admitting now the preferred LMA solution to solar neutrinos, (b) an understanding of the limitation of the 1-loop calculation so far performed, thus explaining the two previous discrepancies with data, and (c) an analytic derivation and confirmation of the numerical results previously obtained.
Where we are onθ13: addendum to ‘Global neutrino data and recent reactor fluxes: status of three-flavor oscillation parameters’
2011
In this addendum to arXiv:1103.0734 we consider the recent results from long-baseline $\nu_\mu\to\nu_e$ searches at the T2K and MINOS experiments and investigate their implications for the mixing angle $\theta_{13}$ and the leptonic Dirac CP phase $\delta$. By combining the $2.5\sigma$ indication for a non-zero value of $\theta_{13}$ coming from T2K data with global neutrino oscillation data we obtain a significance for $\theta_{13} > 0$ of about $3\sigma$ with best fit points $\sin^2\theta_{13} = 0.013(0.016)$ for normal (inverted) neutrino mass ordering. These results depend somewhat on assumptions concerning the analysis of reactor neutrino data.
Precise Determination of the UnperturbedB8Neutrino Spectrum
2012
A measurement of the final state distribution of the B-8 beta decay, obtained by implanting a 8B beam in a double-sided silicon strip detector, is reported here. The present spectrum is consistent with a recent independent precise measurement performed by our collaboration at the IGISOL facility, Jyvaskyla [O. S. Kirsebom et al., Phys. Rev. C 83, 065802 ( 2011)]. It shows discrepancies with previously measured spectra, leading to differences in the derived neutrino spectrum. Thanks to a low detection threshold, the neutrino spectrum is for the first time directly extracted from the measured final state distribution, thus avoiding the uncertainties related to the extrapolation of R-matrix fi…
Neutrino oscillation effects on the indirect signal of neutralino dark matter from the Earth core
1999
We investigate the effect induced by neutrino oscillation on the dark matter indirect detection signal which consists in a muon neutrino flux produced by neutralino annihilation in the Earth core. We consider the neutrino oscillation parameters relevant to the atmosferic neutrino deficit, both in the νμ → ντ and νμ → νs cases.
