Climate change impact on the West African monsoon from June to October.

Sixteen CMIP5 models are used toanalyse how climate changes over the West African Monsoon region between a “future period”, defined from 2031 to 2070under the rcp4.5 emission scenario, and the “current period”, defined from 1960 to 1999 under the historical emissionscenario. The results show an increase of the September to October rainfall amounts. Circulation anomalies include of anincreases of sea-level pressure over the Mediterranean Sea and Europe that allow a strengthening of the moisture flux fromEuro-Mediterranean regions into the Sahel. These changes are stronger in autumn.

This work compares the duration and the frequency of spring heat waves (HWs) in West Africa according to 5 indices: Warm Spell (WS), Heat Index (HI) with and without the relative humidity, Apparent Temperature (AT), and Excess Heat Factor (EHF). The daily relative humidity and temperature data (minimum, maximum, dew point are provided by the GSOD database for the period 1973-2014 and cover 145 stations spread over a large African area (3-24°N; 24°W-36°E). Macroecological properties of ammonites : spatial distribution, phylogeny, and faunal similarity

The present work, which lies between macroecology and macroevolution, focuses on the spatio-temporal dynamics of early Pliensbachian ammonites of the western Tethys. Two main questions are addressed: how does inter-assemblage compositional similarity decrease with geographical distance? What is the relationship between species range size and phylogeny, species duration and latitudinal position?Ammonite dispersal dynamics are studied through a multi-scale Similarity Distance Decay analysis. We show that their long-distance dispersal is facilitated when the environment is more homogeneous and that it is not related to their morphology. In the wake of the Mesozoic, the Early Triassic (~251.95 Ma) corresponds to the aftermath of the most severe mass extinction of the Phanerozoic: the end-Permian crisis, when life was nearly obliterated (e.g., 90% of marine species disappeared). Consequences of this mass extinction are thought to have prevailed for several millions of years, implying a delayed recovery lasting the whole Early Triassic, if not more. Several paradigms have been established and associated to a delayed biotic recovery scenario expected to have resulted from harsh and deleterious paleoenvironments.
