This study focuses on the promotion of the social capital and the development of a civic community through social commitment networks, and consequently, maintaining local development. The methodological procedure adopted was the case study and, as main technique of data analysis, the content analysis was used. The programs of social responsibility of companies renowned as socially responsible from the region of Serra Gaúcha (south Brazil) were studied, analyzing their contribution to the generation or strengthening of the social capital of the reached communities. PurposeIn this study, the authors examine whether social capital embedded in individuals' social networks is connected to employees' long-term income development in Finland.Design/methodology/approachAnalyses are based on 25–35-year-old employees from the Finnish Living Conditions Survey of 1994 combined with register data on earned incomes from 1995 to 2016. Joukkueiden monikulttuuristuessa myös niiden toimintatavat muuttuvat, luoden seurakenttään uudenlaisen pääomien taistelukentän. Palapelin palat paikoilleen –tutkimuksessa Suomeen muuttaneet maahanmuuttajat kertovat kokemuksistaan kotoutumiskoulutuksesta ja sen kehittämistarpeista. Työssä selvitetään millaista pääomaa kotoutumiskoulutus tarjoaa maahanmuuttajille. Työssä kysytään, onko kotoutumiskoulutuksen antama pääoma laadultaan sellaista, että se auttaa maahanmuuttajia saavuttamaan omat henkilökohtaiset tavoitteensa. Tutkimuksessa kysytään myös, ovatko maahanmuuttajat kokeneet, että koulutus ja ohjaus antavat heille mahdollisuuden rakentaa yhdenvertaisia ja dialogisia suhteita suomalaisen yhteiskunnan jäsenenä. Social robotics is a technology that, as its definition varies, encompasses conceptually diverse fields materializing in innovations from simple chatbots to sophisticated androids talking about the peaceful coexistence of humans and robots. The advances in social robotics have led to promising applications in education, work, entertainment, and even religion. Yet a measure of fear and confusion about the capabilities of contemporary and future robots exists, with one of the reasons being the presentation of some contemporary robots as being more advanced than they really are.
