International audience; Russell Banks’s 1985 novel Continental Drift tells the intertwined stories of Bob Dubois, a white American man who decides to try his luck in Florida, and the Haitian Vanise Dorsinville, who is forced to leave her island with her son and her nephew to flee Jean-Claude Duvalier’s dictatorial presidency. In this paper, I study how, in the chapters dedicated to the Haitian diaspora, Banks chooses to adopt an ex-centric point of view to give a voice to those whose history and culture have largely been ignored by American society and literature. International audience; Warnings can help prevent damage and harm if they are issued timely and provide information that help responders and population to adequately prepare for the disaster to come. Today, there are many indicator and sensor systems that are designed to reduce disaster risks, or issue early warnings. In this paper we analyze the different systems in the light of the initial decisions that need to be made in the response to sudden onset disasters. We outline challenges of current practices and methods, and provide an agenda for future research.To illustrate our approach, we present a case study of Typhoon Haiyan. Desde la perspectiva sociojurídica de los estudios de la gobernabilidad, se analiza la evolución de las estrategias de provisión de seguridad, desde su orientación neoliberal hasta el predominio de la austeridad desde la crisis de 2008. Se delimita así un escenario en el que la desigualdad y la aporofobia son elementos fundamentales del marco axiológico hegemónico. Esto es relevante para la configuración y efectividad de los derechos sociales de distintos grupos vulnerables. El artículo se aproxima finalmente a la situación de las empleadas de hogar y de quienes acceden a una vivienda mediante la ocupación de inmuebles vacíos en España.

The classical view of muscles as independent motors has been challenged over the past decades. An alternative view has emerged in which muscles are not isolated but embedded in a three-dimensional connective tissue network that links them to adjacent muscles and other non-muscular structures in the body. Animal studies showing that the forces measured at the distal and proximal ends of a muscle are not equal have provided undisputable evidence that these connective tissue linkages are strong enough to serve as an extra pathway for muscular force transmission. Purpose: This article is based on a study that explored learning processes related to intercultural competence of PE teacher trainees. The context of the study was the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Tutkimus käsittelee Porin kaupungin rajojen ulkopuolella niiden välittömässä tuntumassa asuneita henkilöitä sekä itse aluetta 1800-luvun puolivälissä. Pori paloi vuonna 1852, ja monet kaupunkilaiset pystyttivät tilapäisasunnon kaupungin maille jälleenrakennetun kaava-alueen ulkopuolelle. Asutuksesta tuli kuitenkin ilmiö, joka kesti aina 1800-luvun lopulle asti. Asuntoina käytettiin maakuoppia ja muita mökkejä. Työssä osoitetaan, että ilmiö liittyi palon jälkeiseen hätäasumiseen vain osittain, sillä rajojen ulkopuolelle asetuttiin pitkin 1850-ja 1860-lukua ja osittain myöhemminkin.
