Cat Cafés and Dog Restaurants

Starting from the assumption that space is a language and that food is also a language, what we will try to show in this paper is how these two languages, together, carry specific concepts of animality. For this reason, we will focus on two different places of food consumption that place animals at the centre of their proposal and that in recent years have spread in urban environments: cat cafes, where cats are conceived as subjects to pet, endowed with a predominantly emotional value, and dog restaurants, where dogs are in fact the real restaurant clients.

This paper concerns the main aspects of semiotics of packaging. Packaging has to be considered as a special communicative touchpoint between brands and consumers, since it is a syncretic object (using various languages) with textures, materials, shapes and colours that consumers can see, touch, smell, involving different modes (visual, verbal, tactile) that convey a brand's core values.

Questo contributo indaga il funzionamento semiotico del packaging dei prodotti del mercato biologico. Tanti prodotti, tante marche, tanti pack che hanno in comune la naturalità come fi lo conduttore, una massa eteroclita che dice e ri-dice sempre lo stesso concetto di fondo. Ma come lo mette in forma? Quali sostanze specifi che vengono prodotte a livello del contenuto? E quali soggettività vengono delineate dal punto di vista narrativo ed enunciativo? Quali tipi di consumatori? Qui mi concentrerò su alcuni packaging alimentari, come confezioni per pasta, biscotti e altri prodotti di uso comune, prendendo in considerazione alcune delle marche più diffuse nei negozi specializzati bio.

The article investigates the gastronomic universe of street food through two steps. The first is theoretical and highlights what are the founding semantic categories of street food with respect to other culinary worlds (home cooking, fast food, etc.) and, through this specifically relational point of view, also explains the transformations and inversions between systems of values that are in principle opposite. Bakalaura darba „Laiks un telpa Ievas Melgalves romānā „Mirušie nepiedod” un Lauras Dreižes romānā „Tā runāja Zosu māte”” mērķis ir izprast abu fantāzijas romānu laiku un telpu, analizējot tos un izpētot laika un telpas saistību vienam ar otru. Lai uzdevumus īstenotu, tika izmantota semiotiskā metode. Darbā secināts, ka romānos aplūkotās zīmes un simboli paplašina telpu un tajos lielākoties valda mītiskais laiks. We focus on the sense of virtual community (SoVC) and commitment as relevant antecedents in achieving the success and maintenance of different types of VCs (communities of interest, virtual learning communities, and virtual communities of practice). A questionnaire to measure the extra-pulmonary symptoms of asthma

Background: Research into the effects of asthma treatments on the extra-pulmonary symptoms of severe asthma is limited by the absence of a suitable questionnaire. The aim was to create a questionnaire suitable for intervention studies by selecting symptoms that are statistically associated with asthma pathology and therefore may improve when pathology is reduced. Methods: Patients attending a specialist asthma clinic completed the 65-item General Symptom Questionnaire (GSQ-65), a questionnaire validated for assessing symptoms of people with functional disorders.
