Sex differences in OF1 mice's learning of the Hebb-Williams Maze
2017
2022
Shared Space - A Way to the Pedestrian City The negative effects of car traffic in cities continue to grow, despite the goals that the sustainable mobility paradigm put forward almost three decades ago. Measures to reduce them mainly focus on improving road safety by reducing vehicle speed and reducing traffic (traffic calming). However, the overriding goal of calming traffic is to create the desired communication behavior of res- idents and to create such spaces in the city where the needs of pedestrians and cyclists are a priority. The Shared Space project is an unusual, completely inno- vative and increasingly popular solution that allows you to calm traffic. It means a space shared betw…
Modeling of the Shear Connection Capacity of Hybrid Steel Trussed Composite Beams
2019
Hybrid Steel Trussed Composite Beams represent a technical solution in use in numerous countries since many years. They are able to join the advantages of prefabrication with those of cast in place structures: they are easy to manufacture, fast to realize, monolithic and with no need of formwork. The behavior of these beams has been recently topic of discussion in the scientific community because the knowledge both related to the reinforced concrete structures and that of composite constructions cannot be straightforwardly extended to this typology, which is intermediate between one and another technology. This paper provides a contribution towards a better understanding of the mechanism of…
A Model for the Study of Sheath Currents in Medium Voltage Cables for Industrial Application
2020
In this paper, the implementation of a simulation model for studying the effect of cross-bonding of metallic sheaths and/or non-magnetic armor of single-core medium voltage cables in the same circuit is discussed. With the use of single-core cables, the resistive losses due to the induced circulating currents in cable sheaths or armors causes an increase of cable temperature that reduces its ampacity. In addition, the risk of electric shock due to induced voltages may be present if a person is exposed to the armor/sheath at the unbounded end. For this reason, special bonding techniques are used to significantly reduce these currents. The authors have implemented a model that could be used t…
Influence of Degradative Enzymatic Activities on the Shelf Life of Ready-to-Eat Prickly Pear Fruits
2012
Prickly pear fruit (Opuntia ficus indica L. Miller) belongs to the Cactaceae family. This species is very sensitive to low storage temperatures (< 5°C) which cause damages. The fruits can be peeled, suitably packaged and successfully commercialized as a ready-to-eat product. The main limit to the extension of the shelf life is the production of off-flavors due to different factors, the growth of microorganisms and the action of endogenous enzymes. Lipoxygenase (LOX) and Pectinesterase (PE) are involved in fruit degradation. In particular, LOX pathway is directly responsible for lipid oxidation, and the subsequent production of off-flavours, while PE causes the softening of fruit during m…
Predicted gamma-ray image of SN 1006 due to inverse Compton emission
2009
We propose a method to synthesize the inverse Compton (IC) gamma-ray image of a supernova remnant starting from the radio (or hard X-ray) map and using results of the spatially resolved X-ray spectral analysis. The method is successfully applied to SN 1006. We found that synthesized IC gamma-ray images of SN 1006 show morphology in nice agreement with that reported by the H.E.S.S. collaboration. The good correlation found between the observed very-high energy gamma-ray and X-ray/radio appearance can be considered as an evidence that the gamma-ray emission of SN 1006 observed by H.E.S.S. is leptonic in origin, though the hadronic origin may not be excluded.
Investigating the Structure of Vela X
2018
Vela X is the prototypical example of a pulsar wind nebula whose morphology and detailed structure have been affected by the interaction with the reverse shock of its host supernova remnant. The resulting complex of filamentary structure and mixed-in ejecta embedded in a nebula that is offset from the pulsar provides the best example we have of this middle-age state that characterizes a significant fraction of composite SNRs, and perhaps all of the large-diameter PWNe seen as TeV sources. Here we report on an XMM-Newton Large Project study of Vela X, supplemented by additional Chandra observations. Through broad spectral modeling as well as detailed spectral investigations of discrete emiss…
