The Export Strategy and SMEs Employment Resilience During Slump Periods

Abstract The Spanish economy was the most hit by the Great Recession. It suffered a greater decrease in the gross domestic product (GDP) (affecting especially internal demand). However, it suffered a greater increase in exports (the so-called Spanish “miracle”). Particularly, Spanish SMEs incorporation into exports has been spectacular since 2008. Further, this has coincided with a huge increase in unemployment. Therefore, our main objective is to investigate the moderating role of exports in job destruction associated with recessive contexts of domestic demand using Spanish manufacturing SMEs as a case study. The southern part of the A1 motorway (D1 in Czech designation) is a functioning infrastructure corridor connecting the Czech and Polish parts of the Upper Silesian Agglomeration, which is significant for the development of medium-sized cities in this region. This article is a continuation of research that was conducted in 2013. A research on Czech Bohumin and Polish Jastrzębie Zdrój was repeated with regard to the developmental aspects of these two medium-sized cities in the context of the functioning A1 motorway. The proposed principle for understanding the urban fabric is based on considering the town as a set of complex objects, taking a systemic approach. The town system used to study the urban fabric over large time spans is composed of three sub-systems relating to historical objects from the level of the excavation to that of the former urban space: function (social use), space (location, surface area and morphology) and time (dating, duration and chronology). Matching across space: evidence from Finland

This paper studies spatial aspects in local labour markets in Finland from the perspective of a matching approach. The monthly data comprise 173 Local Labour Office are as over a 12-year period between January 1991 and August 2002. The basic matching function is extended to account for spatial spill-overs between the local labour markets. The role of population density in the matching process is also examined. According to results, the Finnish local labour markets suffer from a strong congestion effect among job seekers, and spatial spill-overs even strengthen the congestion.
