Paternal mental health trajectory classes and early fathering experiences

2016

A father’s mental health is important for family well-being, but research is scarce on paternal symptoms during the transition to fatherhood. This study identified fathers’ latent mental health trajectory classes from the pre- to postnatal period and examined their associations with early fathering experiences. It further analysed, whether a family’s infertility history was associated with mental health trajectory classes and moderated their effects on fathering experiences. Finnish fathers ( N = 773) reported psychological distress (General Health Questionnaire; GHQ-36) and depressive symptoms (Beck Depression Inventory; BDI-13) in pregnancy (T1), and at 2 months (T2) and 12 months (T3) p…

Childhood Obesity and Maternal Personality Traits: A New Point of View on Obesity Behavioural Aspects.

2021

The epidemic spread of childhood obesity in Western society has interested many researchers, who agree in defining it as a multifactorial disease in which not only eating habits and sedentary lifestyle play a role, but also genetic predisposition. The aim of this study was to analyze the personality profile of a group of mothers of children with obesity and to compare this profile to that of a group of mothers of children without obesity. A total of 258 mothers participated in the study (126 mothers of children with obesity and 132 mothers of children without obesity). Weight and height were measured and the body mass index was calculated. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory sec…

Current management of pelvic organ prolapse in aging women : EMAS clinical guide

2018

Management of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common and challenging task. Nowadays older women are more active than they were in the past, and the development of POP disrupts quality of life and impairs social and personal activities. The menopausal transition is a time of vulnerability, during which many women start experiencing symptoms and signs of POP. The role of hormonal changes or of hormonal therapies in influencing the development or progression of POP has been explored extensively. The management of POP requires considerable clinical skills. Correct diagnosis and characterization of the prolapse and an identification of the individual woman's most bothersome symptoms are the hal…

A C1-inhibitor rare mutation: Early diagnosis of hereditary angioedema in a paediatric patient

2013

Hereditary angioedema secondary to C1-inhibitor deficiency is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by a deficiency of C1 esterase inhibitor. An eight-year-old girl showed periorbital painless swelling, diagnosed as ethmoiditis. A craniofacial scan did not evidence a paranasal sinus involvement, C1INH levels were undetectable, with low C4 levels: 7.6 mg/dl and C1INH: <8.46 mg/dl. The genetic study identified a rare mutation of the C1INH gene. This clinical report is of relieve because paediatric cases described in literature are rare, did not presented a positive family history, and received a diagnosis after many attacks. Furthermore our girl received a prompt diagnosis of HAE at…

Prognostic factors in the treatment of Ewing's sarcoma

1987

From 1981 up to February 1985, a total of 93 protocol patients entered the study CESS 81. The protocol recommended an initial 18-week period of polychemotherapy (VACA) followed by local therapy and two additional cycles of chemotherapy. Local therapy consisted either of radical surgery or of incomplete resection plus postoperative irradiation with 36 Gy or of radiotherapy alone (46 and 60 Gy). Centrally located lesions were always irradiated with 60 Gy. This article summarizes the data after 5 years. Data of 93 patients were analysed in October 1986 after a median follow-up of 37 months. The projected 5-year survival is 50%. The relapse rate was 42%, distant relapses occurred in 19%, local …

Differences in sedentary time and physical activity among mothers and children using a movement-to-music video program in the home environment: a pil…

2016

Measured objectively, less than a quarter of adults and under half of preschool children in Finland meet the physical activity recommendations. Moreover, higher sedentary time among parents (such as watching television) is associated with higher sedentary time of their children. The study introduces an intervention based on reducing sedentary behavior among mothers and their children. It utilizes a combination of music and exercise via a motivation-targeting movement-to-music video program in the home environment. Data were collected in summer 2014 from Finland’s Pirkanmaa region. Each mother–child pair (n = 24, child age: 4–7 years) was assigned to the intervention and control group. Both …

P343 Procalcitonin role in the management of lower respiratory tract infections in preschool children

2017

Introduction One of the major advantage of procalcitonin compared to other parameters is its highly and early increase in response to bacterial infection. The increased procalcitonin levels can be observed 3 to 6 hours after infectious challenge. It is a parameter that made a significant contribution to the clinical diagnosis, severity of infection and in the same time procalcitonin kinetics cand be used to assess the effectiveness of treatment. Methods A single- centre observational study consecutively enrolled 70 preschool children with lower respiratory tract infections who were hospitalised in Paediatric Clinic Hospital of Sibiu between January 2013 and January 2017. Procalcitonin, were…

Unicystic ameloblastoma in 3 year old paediatric patient: a rare entity

2013

Unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) is a benign epithelial odontogenic tumor of the jaws that commonly occurs in 2nd and 3rd decade of life. In fact, this entity is rare in children under 12 years of age. It is characterised as a distinct variant of ameloblastoma, exhibiting a less aggressive behaviour and a lower rate of recurrence than solid conventional ameloblastoma. There are very few reported cases of UA occurring in children below five years of age. The purpose of this case report is to describe a case of UA involving the crown of an unerupted maxillary second premolar in a 3 year old girl. The pathogenesis, clinical appearance, radiographic presentation, histological findings and managemen…
