AbstractEarlier research has concluded that there is a strong symbolic relationship between Helsinki as a place and non-standard /s/ pronunciation. This phenomenon is likewise in continuous evidence in the Finnish media and social media. The notion of “Helsinki s” has become a folk linguistic fact although it lacks a clear linguistic correlate or even status as a linguistic fact. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää kuinka hyvin Jyväskylän yliopiston tietotekniikan laitoksen opiskelijoiden taidot vastaavat toimialan tarpeita. Tietoa opiskelijoiden osaamisesta saatiin heille tehdystä kyselystä sekä tietotekniikan kandidaatin tutkinnon osaamistavoitteista. Tietoa yritysten tarpeista kerättiin alan työpaikkailmoituksista sekä Keski-Suomen alueen yrityksille tarjottujen PROFIT-koulutusten aiheista. Saatuja tietoja vertaamalla saatiin selville, että opiskelijoiden taidot vastaavat hyvin toimialan tarpeita sekä kansallisesti, että Keski-Suomessa.

Tutkimukseni kuvaa suunnitteluprosessia, jonka tuloksena syntyi luonnostelma ”Alvarin askelissa” teemalukuvuonna (2015–2016) käytettävistä arkkitehtuurikasvatuksen menetelmistä. Teemalukuvuosi johdattaa Seinäjoen kaupungin perusopetuksen 2., 5., 7. ja 8. luokkien oppilaita havainnoimaan ja tiedostamaan arkkitehtuurin ja rakennetun ympäristön merkitystä heidän omassa ympäristössään. Teemalukuvuoden keskiössä on Seinäjoen Alvar Aallon suunnittelema, kuusi rakennusta ja kansalaistorin käsittävä, arkkitehtoninen kokonaisuus, jota kutsutaan Aalto-keskukseksi. Tutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää, miten tilat ja niihin liitetyt identiteetit rakentuvat asunnottomuutta koskevissa Helsingin Sanomien artikkeleissa ja mielipidekirjoituksissa 1.1.2010 ja 15.4.2013 välisellä ajalla. Koska asunnottomuutta luokitellaan sen perusteella, millaisessa fyysisessä ympäristössä asunnoton yönsä viettää, kiinnostuksen kohteena on, millaisiin ympäristöihin asunnottomuus Helsingin Sanomissa asettuu ja paikallistuu. In this chapter, Keith Breen and Onni Hirvonen examine the case for democratic worker voice based on the republican ideal of freedom as non-domination. While not unconvincing, this case is primarily consequentialist in character and therefore open to significant empirical disagreement. Indeed, together with republican arguments for democratic worker voice, there are republican arguments for worker voice that reject workplace democracy, republican arguments that see state regulation plus a universal basic income (UBI) as sufficient for minimizing workplace domination, and republican arguments that focus exclusively on exit rights and are hostile to augmenting workers’ voice. ‘I changed my life’s course’ : The impact of the Helsingin Sanomat Foundation fellowship on the career path of a journalist

This study focuses on the fellowship program of Helsingin Sanomat Foundation, which has sent a hundred mid-career journalists from Finland to study abroad at prominent universities. Based on two surveys, one on the fellows (n = 45) and one on a control group (n = 52), the article discusses the impact the fellowship education has on the journalists and their careers. The surveys are complemented with in-depth interviews of 10 fellow journalists. The European Union (EU) has been criticised for a lack of imageries and sites of memory that nation-states have traditionally utilised in their identity-building.
