Preliminary Study of the Mural Paintings of Sotterra Church in Paola (Cosenza, Italy)

A multi-analytical approach was employed to study wall paintings located in the Sotterra church at Paola, in the province of Cosenza, Italy. The site is an underground church (hence the name of Sotterra, which means “under the earth”) rediscovered in the second half of the 19th century, during the building works of the Madonna del Carmine church on the same area. This underground church preserves valuable mural paintings having different styles. The construction’s dating and overlapped modifications made until the site was abandoned is also debated. Il saggio affronta la componente araldica nella decorazione del soffitto dipinto della Sala Magna dello Steri di Palermo, raffrontando gli stemmi ancora esistenti con quelli descritti in due autorevoli fonti scritte secentesche. La seconda di queste, un manoscritto finora anonimo, viene adesso assegnata a Vincenzo Auria e datata ante 1668. The essay deals with the heraldic component in the decoration of the painted ceiling of the Sala Magna of the Steri in Palermo, comparing the still existing coats of arms with those described in two important 17th century written sources. The second of these, a manuscript until now anonymous, is now assigned to Vincenzo Auria and dated before 1668.

Perceived sufficiency of physical activity levels among adults at high risk of type 2 diabetes. The FIN-D2D study

Purpose. This study assessed the determinants of perceived physical activity levels (PALs) among adults at high risk of diabetes, and the associations with self-reported physical activity. Methods. In total, 10,149 adults participated in the FIN-D2D lifestyle intervention at baseline. Opportunistic screening was used in identifying high risk individuals. Physical activity and perceived PAL sufficiency were assessed and compared. Key risk factors for diabetes and psychosocial and demographic characteristics were analyzed as determinants using logistic regression. Results. [EN] A case study to evaluate the use of microfading spectrometry (MFS) for the study of colored systems found in prehistoric rock art paintings was conducted in the Cova Remígia rock-shelter, Castellón (Spain). This rock shelter is part of the rock art sites of the Mediterranean basin on the Iberian Peninsula included in UNESCO s World Heritage List.
