Molecular characterisation and evolution of the hemocyanin from the European spiny lobster, Palinurus elephas.
2003
The hemocyanin of the European spiny lobster Palinurus elephas (synonym: Palinurus vulgaris) is a hexamer composed by four closely related but distinct subunits. We have obtained the full cDNA sequences of all four subunits, which cover 2275-2298 bp and encode for native polypeptides of 656 and 657 amino acids. The P. elephas hemocyanin subunits belong to the alpha-type of crustacean hemocyanins, whereas beta- and gamma-subunits are absent in this species. An unusual high ratio of non-synonymous versus synonymous nucleotide substitutions was observed, suggesting positive selection among subunits. Assuming a constant evolution rate, the P. elephas hemocyanin subunits emerged from a single he…
Behavioural and biochemical stress responses of Palinurus elephas after exposure to boat noise pollution in tank
2014
This study examined the effects of boat noise on the behavioural and biochemical parameters of the Mediterranean spiny lobster (Palinurus elephas). The experiment was conducted in a tank equipped with a video and audio recording system. 18 experimental trials, assigned to boat noise and control conditions, were performed using lobsters in single and group of 4 specimens. After a 1. h habituation period, we audio- and video-recorded the lobsters for 1. h. During the experimental phase, the animals assigned to the boat groups were exposed to boat noise pollution (a random sequence of boat noises). Exposure to the noise produced significant variations in locomotor behaviours and haemolymphatic …
Comparing Long-Acting Antipsychotic Discontinuation Rates Under Ordinary Clinical Circumstances: A Survival Analysis from an Observational, Pragmatic…
2021
Background Recent guidelines suggested a wider use of long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAI) than previously, but naturalistic data on the consequences of LAI use in terms of discontinuation rates and associated factors are still sparse, making it hard for clinicians to be informed on plausible treatment courses. Objective Our objective was to assess, under real-world clinical circumstances, LAI discontinuation rates over a period of 12 months after a first prescription, reasons for discontinuation, and associated factors. Methods The STAR Network ‘Depot Study’ was a naturalistic, multicentre, observational prospective study that enrolled subjects initiating a LAI without restrictions …
Ontogenetic trophic segregation between two threatened smooth-hound sharks in the Central Mediterranean Sea
2020
AbstractElasmobranchs are among the species most threatened by overfishing and a large body of evidence reports their decline around the world. As they are large predators occupying the highest levels of marine food webs, their removal can alter the trophic web dynamic through predatory release effects and trophic cascade. Suitable management of threatened shark species requires a good understanding of their behaviour and feeding ecology. In this study we provide one of the first assessments of the trophic ecology of the “vulnerable” smooth-hounds Mustelus mustelus and M. punctulatus in the Central Mediterranean Sea, based on stomach contents and stable isotope analyses. Ontogenetic diet ch…
Pharmacodynamic consequences of P-glycoprotein-dependent pharmacokinetics of risperidone and haloperidol in mice
2008
Efflux transporters, like P-glycoprotein (P-gp), may limit the access of drugs to the brain via the blood-brain barrier. The antipsychotic drug risperidone and its active metabolite 9-hydroxyrisperidone (paliperidone) are substrates of P-gp. Motor behavior of P-gp deficient mice (mdr1a/1b (-/-, -/-)) and wild type animals on a rotarod after acute doses of risperidone or haloperidol, a nonsubstrate of P-gp, were analysed aiming to show that P-gp substrate properties of an antipsychotic drug have functional consequences. Behavioral tests revealed dose-dependent effects of 0.3-3 mg/kg risperidone in wild type animals 0.5-12 h after i.p. injection of the drug. In knockout mice the 0.3 mg/kg dos…
Évaluation de la prescription des antalgiques de palier II chez la personne âgée de 75 ans en médecine générale
2017
Although step-2 analgesics (S2A) are recommended when step-1 analgesics (S1A) are ineffective or in cases of moderate to severe pain, their efficacy varies. This study evaluated the place attributed by general practitioners (GPs) to S2A in the treatment of nociceptive pain in elderly persons (EP). Descriptive, transversal and declarative study conducted among GPs in Burgundy. In total, 115 GPs took part in the survey. Among these, 60.8% had at least one consultation/day for pain. After paracetamol, which was systematically preferred, 56.4% prescribed S2A for EP. The reasons for prescribing S2A included pain not relieved by S1A in 93% of cases, another medical treatment or not (42.6%), or th…
Malnutrīcijas risks bērniem paliatīvajā aprūpē
2019
Ievads. Metodes. Pētījumā iekļauti 19 paliatīvās aprūpes bērni. Iekļaušanas kritēriji: VSAC “Rīga” filiāles “Pļavnieki” klienti; 4. pa…

The Grotta Grande of Scario (Salerno, Italy): Archaeology and environment during the last interglacial (MIS 5) of the Mediterranean region
2011
Abstract Archeological and paleo-environmental researches carried on the Grotta Grande site illustrate the importance of a multidisciplinary approach among archeologists, palynologists and paleontologists. The archaeology, fauna, pollen and micro-charcoal recovered in two short sedimentary successions (trenches A, F) located close to the entrance of the cave are discussed. The cave opens directly on the Tyrrhenian Sea, 2 km from Scario (Salerno, Campania, Southern Italy). The morphology of the cave and sedimentary processes were controlled by eustatic fluctuations during the late Middle Pleistocene and the early Late Pleistocene. The sea repeatedly occupied the cave. The cave was frequented…
