The Panic-Associated Symptom Scale: measuring the severity of panic disorder.

The Panic-Associated Symptom Scale (PASS) is presented as a new measurement of the severity of the core symptoms of panic disorder. This first description addresses the rationale for its design and its scoring, score distributions, test-retest reliability, correlations within the PASS and with other scales, principal component structure, and response to drug therapy. Data are presented from a large study group of patients with panic disorder (n = 1168). Problems in measuring panic disorder are discussed.

The effects of changing body size, energy intake and substrate oxidation on serum T4, FT4, T3, FT3 and TSH were investigated in ten morbidly obese subjects (4 men/6 women; age: 37 ± 6 years; BMI: 53.8 ± 6.5 kg/m2; mean ± SD) who had undergone a surgical bilio-pancreatic by-pass in order to reduce their body weight. The starting value of serum FT3 was inversely related to the BMI (r = -0.63; p < 0.05). After 1-3 months, all the subjects were losing weight and their intake of carbohydrates was almost negligible; at this time a significant reduction of T3 (-14.6%, p < 0.0001), T4 (-19.5%, p < 0.0001), and FT3 (-10.5%, p < 0.001) was observed. Highlights There are ~ 2-fold increased odds of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and a ~ 2-fold increased risk of odds of mortality in patients with history of diabetes mellitus compared to those without diabetes mellitus. Long-term results of the use of silicone sheets after diskectomy in the temporomandibular joint: clinical, radiographic and histopathologic findings

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the long-term results of a group of patients who had the disk of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) removed and permanently replaced by a silicone sheet. The study group comprised 48 patients, treated in the period from 1983 to 1993. In eight patients, the implants had to be removed after an average interval of 5.6 years and they were submitted for histopathological examination. Objectives TO describe the evolution of tuberculosis epidemiology in Area 15 of the Autonomous Community of Valencia. Material and Methods Cases of tuberculosis were identified by active case finding in Area 15 from January 1987 through December 2001. Clinical and epidemiological data were extracted from case records and a patient interview. Results Four hundred seventy-six diagnosed cases of mycobacterial infection were identified (459 tuberculosis, 16 atypical, and 1 mixed); 423 tuberculosis patients were residents of Area 15. Objective: The aim of the present study was to verify the efficacy and the safety of intratympanic dexamethasone to treat sudden sensorineural hearing loss as salvage therapy.
